What are some things you can't do now but plan on doing once this Coronavirus situation ends?

Okay, I'll start! I'm in a Psych NP program, so realistically this goal wasn't going to happen this year, but I was definitely going to do it after the NP program ends next year: I'm going to take an in-person Italian language course. Either at a community college or Houston's Italian cultural center.

I've been doing the Italian Duolingo course for about 4 months and have grown more and more infatuated with this charming language. It feels like a logic puzzle to me! So I told myself, "In a year, when I'm done with the Duolingo course, I'll reward myself and take an in-person classroom course to build on what I've self-studied!"

How about you folks? What's some stuff you want to do that you can't do now?

And I need a haircut. I'm beginning to look like a little shaggy dog! I'm way too old for a ponytail!

I‘ve given up on my hair... the lady who colored and cut it when the quarantine lifted REALLY screwed it up. Fortunately, we can wear hats where I work so that’s what I‘m doing until I can get it fixed...

My church is closed to in person mass. I honestly need church and the gym.

I'd like to have dinner with my mom and dad.

I hope that I will feel good enough about my technique that I‘ll be able to play for the residents at the facility where I work... it’s amazing how much my technique slipped over twenty years! In retrospect, I wish that I had stuck with it (maybe not so much the flute...). There are some awesome keyboards out there if you’re interested in giving it another try...

The Yamaha P-series is fantastic! I ought to save up money to buy one of those. Especially the P-515. I think the YouTuber Kyle Landry uses that one on his videos... the sound quality's wonderful, and the keys are weighted, too.

I think a major stumbling block for me was how tedious reading sheets was, and it made playing the notes such a draining mental exercise that it took the enjoyment out of playing music. Years later, when I was in college doing my first degree (a B.A. in History), I took a music theory course as a core curriculum requirement. Then I "got it". If you learn the chords and chord progressions, you're more or less good to go. The notes on the sheet make sense when you already know the chords, so their arrangement doesn't seem so random.

I‘ve been working on the German Duo Lingo course but I‘ve kind of hit a plateau. I would love to move to Germany and work as a RN there, but I‘ll probably be dead and buried before I‘m fluent in German... is Italian a difficult language?

I've heard the German course is very long. I did the Welsh course for more than a year, but felt like the course was just too long to ever finish (it would have taken me two more years just to knock out the Duo tree!). I also did the Portuguese tree for a while.

Italian is easy-peasey compared to those two. The vocabulary has a lot of similarities with English and Spanish and the grammar patterns are very regular. I'm really enjoying it thus far.

The State Department's Foreign Service Institute (FSI) lists Italian as a Category I language:

My great grandma (93) also really misses seeing all of us.

But between myself working at the hospital, 3 paramedics in the family, and 2 people who work in jobs where they are exposed to large quantities of people daily, we are all too scared to give COVID to her ?

I have an almost 2 year old. I was going to take some travel contracts around the country to see where would be a good fit for our little family (we don’t want to raise him where we are currently living). Hopefully by this time next year we will be on the road! Finishing my MSN to kill time for now!

I miss my monthly all-you-can-eat hot pot buffet and the rolling dim sum carts in Chinatown ?

What a fun topic! I love hearing about everybody's future plans! Ten years ago I spent a month at Oxford University taking a course. I was excited for the whole trip and loved every minute. I have been saving $ to go again this year but the class was canceled and every new traveler is quarantined for 2 weeks. BTW I did get to see the NHS in action. One of the course members became somewhat somnolent in the dining hall (think Harry Potter's dining hall) and emergency services came (1 person) to assess the situation. She authorized the ambulance, for which there was another long wait!

I miss my random trips to Las Vegas to play poker, or going to Los Angeles to see my siblings. I played in one of the smaller WSOP tournaments last year and made a final table.

I recently bought a Roland FA-06 keyboard/synthesizer last month and I'm still trying to figure out everything.
