I was just reading a thread about a nurse having a needlestick (my prayers go out to you) and I was curious to see what scares you most as a Nurse? If I ever become a nurse I would have to say that scares me to death.
These are all very scary, I would have to calinurse11 that's not weird to think that...heck, I don't even have a kid and the thought of that brings goosebumps! This is kind of off topic but when you mentioned that it bought back a memory. My boyfriend is on the volunteer fire dept., and one day the tones went off for rescue squad it was the dispatchers husband...he was having a heart attack if I remember right. How scary that must have been for her!
Computer charting. Don't laugh. It's become one of the "rights." Did you document in (all the) right place(s). Computer charting has become a full time job all in itself. Saves NO time and in my experience, takes time away from patient care.
Like sloppy and illegible handwriting hasn't been responsible for its share of wrong medications/tests/etc. I work with paper charts and find it frustrating trying read doctor's orders or hand writing. Definitely a pt safety issue.
I think you mean, Jenny McCarthy. I don't think Electra even has kids. McCarthy blamed immunizations on her sons autism.
Yea, that's right, my mistake. Still somebody that got famous by getting naked. Shows how much I pay attention to what they are saying but unfortunately the general public listens to the one that screams the loudest. It's hard to sit in front of a parent that believes this stripper and rejects every piece of evidence presented to them that it is indeed safe and the overall benefit far outweighs the risk. Sometimes I feel like I'm and rather just go  and forget about the :monkeydance:. Frustrating.

While I know what you mean by your post, I really take offense when charting becomes the number one priority in patient care. And that is what is happening. They want us to do real time charting while working with a shoulder dystocia, pp hemorrhage, fetal heart rates in the toilet, crash c/s? Yes, they do. It requires a nurse to just stand at the computer and put all this stuff in. Heaven forbid you write it on the strip (like the old days) and then do your charting long after your shift was supposed to end.
Idiots that don't get their kids vaccinated because some woman that took off her clothes and became famous said it was bad (Carmen Electra). Believe a stripper over a healthcare provider, unbelievable.
I know nothing of Carmen Electra. But I do know plenty of educated people, including doctors and nurses, who don't vaccinate their children.
