I know nothing of Carmen Electra. But I do know plenty of educated people, including doctors and nurses, who don't vaccinate their children.

Then you know plenty of "educated" people that need to understand their actions can and most likely will effect others later in life. Take the recent measles outbreak in Minnesota and Utah. Both had multiple cases that were traced back to a single individual that had not been vaccinated. Before Measles vaccine there were about 500,000 cases each year with actual numbers believed to be well over 1 million and since those have dropped to around 40 cases per year until recent years. Over 150 cases as of mid June and per CDC "The majority of these cases are in foreign visitors and U.S. residents returning from international travel—mostly in unvaccinated U.S. residents"All this does is put the rest of us at risk and jeopardizes the herd immunity. Loss of this could be devastating to a population. just my 2cents tho.

my biggest is being helpless, with a close second causing harm or even death to someone who's care i'm entrusted with

I'm the guy everyone gets for stuff that makes their stomach turn and churn. Vomit, sputum, trachs, BM, loose BM, blood..........eh, w/e. It don't bother me. I work on a M/S unit, so, the one thing that does bother me won't be on our unit:

Bone flaps. The neuro people with part of their skull missing. I'm so afraid I'm going to poke their brain or something.

I won't take these patients, and I don't care if that makes me a bad nurse.

My 2 cents is that you've been brainwashed.

Call me selfish but what scares me *most* is what could happen to me.

Currently, my biggest fear is getting sucker-punched in the head by an out-of-control tweaker or drunk followed closely by getting blood spat in my face by same.

I'm not as concerned about needle sticks because I'm really stinking careful with needles.

I'm really no more scared that someone might be harmed due to my nursing actions than I am that someone might be harmed by my driving. In both cases, I strive to be as thoughtful and as careful as I can but I also recognize that nobody's perfect and that the confluence of events can occasionally have dire consequences.

Show me your facts. Show me the studies, show me peer reviewed documentation that directly links immunizations to autism. At this point there is no real evidence to the cause of autism and its only theory that has not bee proven. The one study done in 1998 by Wakefield and published in The Lancet was later retracted by the journal based a biased subject pool and was believed the author dishonest and irresponsible in his actions during the study. Show me proof. And after almost 20 years emergency nursing I can make my own decisions based on sound research, not based on what somebody tells me. No brainwashing here, I can read pretty good and form my own conclusions.

It always amazes me that those who take this position think that they are the only ones who are educated enough, are intelligent enough, have read enough, have experience enough, or are compassionate enough to come down on the "correct" side of this debate. They toss aside, with haughty disdain, the claims of others to have put any intelligent or educated thought into their position.

People on this side of the fence never engage in these discussions to be open minded and learn something. They only want to argue and beat down the opposition in and attempt to prove they are right.

In this I will no longer engage. There are plenty of other threads here that debate this topic if you are so inclined.

How am I pushy or aggressive in the fact that I ask for proof? In my response I took no elitist attitude, no closed minded approach to the subject. Show me evidence and prove me wrong. If the link exist and is proven then I will take this information and pass it on to parents of my patients. I am open to any new research that proves the link. We are all life long learners in this profession and with advances in medicine and changes we all adjust our practice according to the data. Everything in our world changes just look at CPR and ACLS today compared to 20yrs ago.
