I was just reading a thread about a nurse having a needlestick (my prayers go out to you) and I was curious to see what scares you most as a Nurse? If I ever become a nurse I would have to say that scares me to death.

I'm not a nurse yet but my biggest fear would be for someone to die bc of something i did or didn't do.

I think that is every nurse's biggest fear. If it isn't, they are not in the right profession.

Yep, the previous posters pretty much nailed it. I've already lived through a couple needlesticks and while it wasn't fun, I didn't lose sleep over it like I had imagined.

My biggest fear (tho it may be selfish) is working in the ER and having ems call in an unresponsive child, and come to find that its one of my babies....may sound weird but I've thought about it before and it scares the crap out of me
second would be harming someone, or missing a life threating symptom
Third....needle stick
Fourth would be getting attacked by a patient

Idiots that don't get their kids vaccinated because some woman that took off her clothes and became famous said it was bad (Carmen Electra). Believe a stripper over a healthcare provider, unbelievable.

1) someone dying because I missed something or did something wrong
2) a psych patient/family member going nuts and hurting a coworker before I could stop it (had that almost happen way too many times)
3) being faced with a pregnant woman in the ICU where the only way to save her life is to giver her medicine that will kill her unborn child...it's the patient's call, and no matter which way she chose (loosing the baby or dying with it), it would tear me up.

My biggest fear after harming the patient would be losing my license. All that hard work, tears, frustrations and being left with nothing especially after hearing the horror stories of nurses that have lost it over something stupid. Yeah that really scares me.
