What kind of holiday bonus do you get?

Published

Just curious what different hospitals, clinics, organizations etc are giving their staff over the holidays this year. As a nurse I've never gotten more than a couple hundred bucks as a Christmas bonus but it's always appreciated when employers give a little extra. What are you getting this year? Cash? Coffee mug? Please share!

We were given a $10 Wal-Mart gift card as our Christmas bonus last year.

We get a free turkey this year. I will not claim my turkey because I'm a single, childless person who doesn't do any hardcore cooking on the holidays.

Give your free turkey to a local food bank?

I'm a new-hire who won't get his first paycheck for another two weeks. My family has been hitting the food banks for the last few weeks after my wife lost her job.

I know where a *lot* of my income is going once I start getting those paychecks...to all the places that have helped me and my family get by while I was in school!

Nothing. No bonus. No time-and-a-half. It's a shift like any other.

We at least get time and a half. But only on the actual holiday and my unit counts Xmas eve and NyEve as holidays too so some ppl get stuck working 24th and 25th.

Then hospital gives us NOTHING!

Used to get $20 gift card then were told we would have to pay taxes on it, then got a turkey or ham for a yr or two, now just the free dinner if you happen to work on the holiday. BTW for nights the holiday starts at midnight so if you work the night of , not night before you get NOTHING! And oh yes since our pt satisfaction points are down because we try to enforce our very liberal visiting hr (8am-10pm) and we don't allow cell phones, groups of more than 3, or visitors to bring in food and eat in front of our npo pt in a level I trauma surgical ICU, no raise this year either.

Fortunately the food bank at my church will take vouchers for free turkeys/hams etc. The one year I had a turkey voucher & was required to pick it up with work ID (apparently some other employees were selling their vouchers on CraigsList), a member of the social concerns committee at church went with me so they could "verify" that the turkey was picked up frozen & stayed that way.

When I worked in the hospital some years we got turkey coupons others not much of anything other than a free meal (that for nursing dept staff was not exactly appetizing as we don't always get lunch at noon or dinner at 5). My bonus that year was my mom brought me a plate to work and I actually got to eat it. (One year I worked Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve & Day....I was single & childless and was happy I could help out coworkers)

We are *suppose* to get paid for each holiday whether we work it or not. First year here, so I guess I'll find out if that is true when the check for Jan 1 comes (I'm working every other holiday). They are also giving us jackets for Christmas. Not sure if they have any type of get together for staff or not. It's not much, but I do appreciate being paid for holidays whether I work them or not (even if I am working all but one lol!). And a jacket would be nice, too.

Holiday bonus? What's that? I get to work on Christmas, is that a bonus?

Nothing! You're lucky to get a bonus!

 At first, I was like c'mon..Bonus?? Then I read thru the responses. No, I have not gotten any cash bonus from an employer when it was a large hospital or institution. While employed for a private medical group, yes I did. I was rewarded for my hard work all year. What really annoyed me is this sense thru the thread, "Bonus..You are lucky you got a job!" Do young lawyers retort this to one another? Or any other profession? We as Nurses are being brainwashed into this mindset, the Hospital Inc's want us to have! Be grateful if we let you be employed! Its a dog eat dog world, cause new grad Nancy Nurse RN,BSN is gonna take ur job! They are encouraging this hateful, fearful attitude we wage at one another in the workplace. BTW, Merry X-Mas!

bonus? not for the folks that actually encounter patients. the administration, of course, gets a nice bonus.

Absolutely not one stinking thing.

Once worked where we got a turkey at TG and a ham at Christmas plus a $25 gift card for groceries at Christmas. Long ago.

Never have been paid more than straight time.

Docs often bring crappy sweets to fatten us up. How about some money instead? Or a watch? tie? Something useful? Nice coffee?

Sorry to be ungrateful. I guess I'm just not happy about being unappreciated, abused, ignored any more.

Why not claim it and give it to someone who can use it?
