Just curious what different hospitals, clinics, organizations etc are giving their staff over the holidays this year. As a nurse I've never gotten more than a couple hundred bucks as a Christmas bonus but it's always appreciated when employers give a little extra. What are you getting this year? Cash? Coffee mug? Please share!
I want to work in monkeybug's company.
I have the urge to pinch myself every day to assure myself that I'm really awake and not dreaming all of this up. I work for a non-profit group that serves the disabled and poor in several different capacities. They tacked on the nursing bit this year in a brand new program. It's been amazing to see how real people live, as opposed to nurses and other healthcare workers. Holidays off, office parties, recognition for a job well done are all common here. The pay for most of the employees is average, so they make up for it with the fringe benefits. To us nurses, it's all amazing and extraordinary. To the rest of the employees, it's not all that impressive. Whenever I hear one complain, I want to grab them and shake them! They have no idea how bad it could be! They think all of us nurses are a little too gung ho, we are just all so happy to be here and grateful for everything. I'm just afraid I'm going to wake up and find it was all a dream, and I have to go back to the hospital!

When I worked in the hospital, we got a free meal (IF you worked the shift it was offered, because the cafeteria wasn't open for us lowly nightshifters ON the holiday). That was it.
I work in a large private practice now, and there's a bonus check for each employee, depending on whether they're part-time, full-time, or management. Smallest check is $100; can't say how much the highest one is (not my business!) but I got $500 as a nurse manager. Christmas and New Year's are paid days off -- yay!
