What kind of holiday bonus do you get?

Published

Just curious what different hospitals, clinics, organizations etc are giving their staff over the holidays this year. As a nurse I've never gotten more than a couple hundred bucks as a Christmas bonus but it's always appreciated when employers give a little extra. What are you getting this year? Cash? Coffee mug? Please share!

We used to get a 13th cheque at Christmas, but that changed 6 years ago to a Birthday bonus, so at the end of your birthday month, you get a 13th cheque calculated on your basic monthly salary, specialist unit allowances not included. Nice for me, my birthday's in January :)

The company gives us gift vouchers just before Christmas; used to be the local Woolworths vouchers, but they're talking about going over to one of the cheaper supermarkets this year.

Bonus? What is that? We get nothing. One place I used to work for gave a small box of chocolate candy to our unit to share- of course it was gone by the time second shift came on, so second and third shifts got none.

LOL thats really funny! Bonus? seriously? are there places that do that? All I ever got was a free meal in the cafeteria if I actually work on the holiday.

Well we all even i can't say nothing for a bonus. I thought about this and thought about this and our nothing is really something. I know sound confusing but let me explain. How much do you make an hour? Don't tell me.. Now how much do you make if you had to work Christmas? Don't tell me... So for everyone who doesn't get a bonus... Your pay if not working Christmas or your time in a half pay if your working Christmas is your bonus.. Get it ? And they say i can't be or think positive... That some positive thinking if you ask me.. Because really any other day if you were off you wouldn't get paid.. These are my thoughts use them as you wish.... Or you can just say Karma Thanks for sharing how about shutting up !!!

Karma honey-I have no idea what you just said....:smokin:

We were given a $10 Wal-Mart gift card as our Christmas bonus last year.

We get a free turkey this year. I will not claim my turkey because I'm a single, childless person who doesn't do any hardcore cooking on the holidays.

Well, we did get raises this year, which was unexpected. We also get time and a half for working the holiday, another day's worth of vacation time, and a free holiday meal if you work the holiday. I worked on T-Day and the meal they gave us was pretty good. I actually like working on T-Day (it is easy money and I am a big Christmas person, so by working on T-Day I automatically have Christmas off) so it worked out well for me. We weren't busy. That's always a bonus in my book. :yeah:

bitter, nope! the movie the way we were (1973) :redbeathe released as i started health care career as nurses aide in snf. just like katie in the movie, i'm passionate about my interest: nursing and possitive effect i have on patient care and raising staus of profession.

reality of working in nursing side rather than business end is we staff 24/7, 365 days year through all kinds of conditions: 4hrs sleep, no br breaks, missed meals, snow, hurricanes, no phone service, electrical power outages, floods, holidays. we do not get the luxury of closing down even for a few minutes.

no bonuses or profit sharing, stock options for saving company money or increasing profits via catching medication error, noticing downward patient spiral and getting prompt intervetion preventing code or lawsuit; increasing patient satisfaction scores due to great team work so people come to your facility, rather than competitor down the street.... things other businesses might reward employees.. some give out holiday ham or turkey, gift cards: dh received several over the years.

it's just the reality we live with every day and those considering joining the ranks need to understand and see if it's truly career they want and can fit in with their lifestyle.... welcoming anyone who wants to work with me though 2027 when i celebrate my 50th yr.

we staff 24/7, 265 days year

D: I wanna work there! You get 100 days off! :heartbeat

(I teasing. =) )

I just started a couple of months ago, so I have no idea if we get any kind of bonus beyond the staff holiday party they hold in the hospital. I am not expecting a bonus, and anything I got would be a lovely surprise. Frankly, I am thrilled to have a job when some of my classmates remain unemployed.

That's actually an average of 8 days off a month....two days off a week...I work 5 days a week so I guess I do get 100 days off a year!

Bonus? Are you joking? We are permitted to have a potluck. We bring the food, they let us use a corner of the cafeteria and we may partake over our nonexistent lunch break.

No, we do not get time and a half for working. Holiday pay is an extra $2/hour and only applies to people working the DAY shift on the holiday. Night shifters don't get anything.

You may need a new place to work?
