Vaccination Mandating

I'm in NY. Wonder how other NURSES are feeling about mandatory COVID vaccination?

For the past several years in nursing school I have been taught that nursing ethics involves fidelity, autonomy, beneficence, and justice. People who are are vaccinated with COVID19 mRNA vaccines run the risk of myocarditis and/or pericarditis (CDC, 2021). Vaccine mandates that have inherit risks such as pericarditis and myocarditis, regardless of how small the risk is, go against autonomy which is an ethical principal that guides nursing professionals. "Where there is risk there should be choice."-Kyle

"All persons have intrinsic and unconditional worth, and therefore, should have the power to make rational decisions and moral choices, and each should be allowed to exercise his or her capacity for self-determination" (Varkey, 2020)

Also, since we are mandating these vaccines, what are we going to do with the individuals that develop injuries as a result and are not able to work? I am not aware of any kind of financial support for individuals who have been injured by vaccines that have been mandated.

The risk of myocarditis and pericarditis is many times higher from Covid than it is from a Covid vaccine.

The number of people for whom their immune system is unlikely to adequately respond to a vaccine is higher than I think people realize, and hospitalized patients are generally more likely to fall into this group.  They rely on those caring for them to take fairly basic steps to avoid harm to them, getting vaccinated against Covid for instance.

You of course have the choice to not get vaccinated, but you don't then have the right to expect patients to be the ones to take on the risk of that choice.

I myself have choosen to be vaccinated. Even though I have been vaccinated I can still infect patients since viral replication does occur just at a reduced rate. This is why the hospital requires me to wear a respirator when working with patients regardless if I am in a COVID19 unit or not.

Viral replication still occurs in vaccinated individuals but for a significantly reduced period of time, that's how it helps protect your patients.

Interesting how you deliberately omitted the fact that these conditions are far more likely to occur, and more severely, with actual Covid infection. And there is a laundry list of additional severe sequelae, many of longstanding duration, that occur in Covid infection that are not seen in association with the vaccine.

Pretty inconvenient truths, apparently.

You are correct that there are risks associated with being infected with COVID19. But there is also therapeutics being developed that reduce viral replication once a person is infected and this treatment can be provided on an outpatient basis. Essentially reducing the viral load just like the vaccine would. All I am saying is that we should respect the patients autonomy to make their own informed medical decisions.

The vaccine is more cost effective.

Yeah, Pfizer will be charging about 700 hundred dollars a dose for their COVID19 therapeutic.

Will be.  Vaccination is much cheaper than treatment. Maybe you didn't learn that in public health yet.

You call yourself "Sciencedude" and yet post You Tube videos as evidence?  Are you kidding me?  Post vaccine myocarditis is associated with the puberty hormones in males and is largely self-limited.  These kids aren't losing jobs.  The myocarditis from Covid is a different animal.  No one is tied down to take a vaccine without giving consent.  Try tying down a teenage boy and see if that's possible.  No vaccines are given without consent.  If this is your idea of science, you must be a ghost from the 10th century or possible a paid bad influencer.....you know, like the people on You Tube.  I know that reading is hard but give it a try.  There's a chance you might learn something.

I think he meant it ironically.  Kind of tongue in cheek.
The give away is the "specializes in critical thinking".

Using "People who are are vaccinated with COVID19 mRNA vaccines run the risk of myocarditis and/or pericarditis (CDC, 2021)" and disregarding the increase risk in Covid would not be the textbook definition of "critical thinking".

The level of disdain and utter lack of professional civility in your response to reasoned concerns with bona-fide references (not solely a Youtube video) tells me all I need to know.
