The Trump Thread

Published

I confess to back pedaling into Trump territory when I wanted to leave discussions about him in the garbage can.  My thread on the read-only break room site has 9,600 replies so I thought I'd bring up a new one.

He's not going away.

Haberman's book is out based on interviews.  I won't read it, but the excerpts are interesting.  Especially what he says about McConnell, a description that's against the Terms of Service here, but I actually don't disagree with.  LOL

Quote

“At one point, Trump made a candid admission that was as jarring as it was ultimately unsurprising. ‘The question I get asked more than any other question: “If you had it to do again, would you have done it?”’Trump said of running for president. ‘The answer is, yeah, I think so. Because here’s the way I look at it. I have so many rich friends and nobody knows who they are.’ … Reflecting on the meaning of having been president of the United States, his first impulse was not to mention public service, or what he felt he’d accomplished, only that it appeared to be a vehicle for fame, and that many experiences were only worth having if someone else envied them.”

Nice deflection and sarcasm.  I imagine after the G7 conference and his fundraisers, they kept his schedule light.  I have often wondered with as much time politicians spend on the campaign trail, how busy are their real full time jobs.

Thank you.

I agree.  No matter who it is, I sometimes wonder that as well.

Sometimes there's good reason to wonder, sometimes we wonder just because we're free to do so, and sometimes we wonder because that is what someone else wants us to wonder.  To focus our attention over there... instead of on Trump.

Trump's single term of presidency was hallmarked by corruption and lies.  The lack of ethics among his cabinet alone was an alarming reflection of Trump.  Since then, Trump has been found civilly liable for fraud and sexual abuse and defamation.  Add that to the earlier fraud involving his namesake university and a charity and its easy to deduce that Trump will, once again be a lazy and ineffective fraud of a president.

It's all a show to Trump and he's the star.

Jeff Landry signs Ten Commandments bill into Louisiana law.

Quote

The new Ten Commandments law has been touted by state GOP leaders as a way to bring history, culture and traditions back to the classroom. Civil rights groups have decried the bill, arguing that it is a clear violation of the separation between church and state.

To that end, the American Civil Liberties Union, the American Civil Liberties Union of Louisiana, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and the Freedom from Religion Foundation announced hours after Landry's press conference that they plan to sue over the law, which they said "violates longstanding Supreme Court precedent and the First Amendment." ...

The law requires all classrooms in Louisiana, from kindergarten to college level courses, to hang a poster or framed document of the Ten Commandments that is in large, easy-to-read font.

Maybe the 10 commandments in the schools will feed the millions of hungry and impoverished children in Louisiana.

The governor probably thinks that the 10 Commandments in the classroom will address this

The report found that child mortality rates have risen across the country, and that Louisiana's child mortality rate increased by 16% — one of the steepest rises in the nation. Firearm deaths among children in Louisiana rose by 55% between 2016 and 2021. The report defines children as ages 1 to 19.

Surely having the Commandments in the schools will help to raise the school achievement rankings for grades 1-12. I think the state just celebrated a rank jump to 40/50 rather than 46.

Louisiana has always ranked high in poverty as well.  Also they have the third highest rate of childhood obesity.  Beckers Hospital review rated Louisiana the worst state for healthcare for children.  Metric after metric show Louisiana as a state that doesn't seem to care about its' children.

Having the 10 Commandments wouldn't bother me but that it has to be mandated by law is rediculous.

The statistics show more than one-quarter of Louisiana's children live in poverty. The state remained third-highest in the nation for its poverty rate, behind only Mississippi and New Mexico

Might be the best analysis I've heard on the hush money case.

I watched that interview.  It did appear that she was twisting her ethics and logic into a pretzel.

Steve Bannon is Trump's type.

Did you hear Trump go on and on about having cage fights against immigrants in his speeches yesterday?  He seems to think this is a good, maybe even funny idea.

I wonder what the odds are that Trump brings up crazy talk like this during the evening debate.

The difference would be, Trump comes up with ridiculous analogies but Biden would say he had a cage fight with Stalin during his tour in Vietnam.

Sure.

Let's see if crazy Trump shows up to the debate or if  subdued Trump shows up.  Either way, Trump's odd sense of humor about immigrants and sharks and electric batteries could become part of Trump's discourse because all of the debate is unscripted and there isn't an audience to laugh at his antics.

I predict Trump will attack the moderators from the start. I saw that Hannity is already doing that. Then he will mock and insult Biden, and go after Hunter Biden.

And he may become so frustrated that he walks off the stage, because he won't get that positive feedback from an audience that he so craves.
