I confess to back pedaling into Trump territory when I wanted to leave discussions about him in the garbage can. My thread on the read-only break room site has 9,600 replies so I thought I'd bring up a new one.
He's not going away.
Haberman's book is out based on interviews. I won't read it, but the excerpts are interesting. Especially what he says about McConnell, a description that's against the Terms of Service here, but I actually don't disagree with. LOL
Quote“At one point, Trump made a candid admission that was as jarring as it was ultimately unsurprising. ‘The question I get asked more than any other question: “If you had it to do again, would you have done it?”’Trump said of running for president. ‘The answer is, yeah, I think so. Because here’s the way I look at it. I have so many rich friends and nobody knows who they are.’ … Reflecting on the meaning of having been president of the United States, his first impulse was not to mention public service, or what he felt he’d accomplished, only that it appeared to be a vehicle for fame, and that many experiences were only worth having if someone else envied them.”

I think it's very common for media sources not to reveal sources. I remember in the 70's this being a big deal. Many sources don't want their names published and anonymous sources are comment. Reporting is often "Fox News has learned from a source....blah blah blah.....". The Today show presented it like this "a source in the room said" and mentioned he was talking about the crime and the alleged voter fraud there but didn't reveal the source.
The story I read on ABC was "supposedly said" and didn't present it as fact.
Trump later clarified, thus confirming the story: "It was very clear what I meant. I said, we're very concerned with crime, I love Milwaukee, I have great friends in Milwaukee. The crime numbers are terrible and we have to be very careful."
Still, don't blame the Democrats for pouncing it and people in Milwaukee pushing back against that characterization of their city.
I do get frustrated when a single sentence is all you get and there isn't context to reveal that perhaps the whole story isn't told. This happens too often.

And, many outlets reported as fact without any additional sources. MSNBC said they confirmed the quote, but never said who they confirmed it with. And then buried further down in the story reported on all who said the quote was out of context.
For their part, the NYT seemed to have a fair report on the meeting in which the comment was made.
But, for the most part this story is further proof of the anti-Trump bias in most of our media. Any media outlet reporting that quote as fact shouldn't be taken seriously on anything election or Trump related.
I guess it's anti-Trump because the communication they reported on doesn't reflect well on Trump. This rather common thing for Trump to do (disparage a place or speak badly of a city) has certainly generated a need to deny among his fan base. The guy who tells us stories about "many people" and big strong men with tears in their eyes saying sir, sir is upset that sometone reported a story without a name.
We're supposed to automatically believe that this is out of context because Trump doesn't make up crap and say it to his donors and voters? Meh. Trump met with politically powerful members of his cult. He said some dumb stuff again. They fawned over him and clapped and clapped for his nonspecific policy ideas, generic promises and kind words.
The GOP has been absorbed into a dangerous cult. Trump is the leader. This isn't going to end well.
6/15/24: Donald Trump speaks at Turning Point Action's The People's Convention in Michigan
Some comments today:
Quote"At the end of this speech, I'll be taking some questions. This is different than Joe Biden. He doesn't take any questions" Walks off at the end without taking questions.
" I think Biden should take a cognitive test. My doctor Ronny Johnson. Ronny Johnson, do you know him?
His name is Ronny Jackson, TX Representative now.
"Listen, we don't need votes. We got more votes than anybody ever has. We don't need votes. Don't worry about votes. We need to stop the steel."
2024 voting hasn't started.
"Do you ever go into a home where you have a shower where the water doesn't come out of the shower head? I want that beautiful head of hair to be nice and wet. I want it to be lathered beautifully. I get the best stuff you can buy and I dump it all over, and then I turn on the water and the damn water drips out takes me, I can't get this stuff out of my hair. These are areas that have a lot of water where they don't know what to do with it. It goes out to sea and we'll turn it back on the first day."
Call your plumber since still talking about issue.
"I brought corporate taxes way down. In fact, I'd like to bring them down further"
Donald Trump reportedly wants to raise tariffs to pay for tax cuts thusly INCREASING consumer goods cost.
Trumps cognition issues clear listening to his rallys.

He literally just makes stuff up. The cult loves it.
While Biden was hanging with George Clooney and Obama:
"President Obama never came to the 'hood, so-to-speak, right? President Joe Biden, he went to the big NAACP dinner, but he never came to the 'hood. So thank you," Sewell said, eliciting applause from the audience"

Again, Trump's strategy of wooing the minority vote makes sense.
There's plenty of times Obama visited a black church, including the eve of his inauguration in DC. It's interesting:
QuoteIn line with the inclusionary dilemma theme of this volume, I examine the Obama administration's public and private exchanges with Black religious communities. In many ways, Barack Obama's political experiences highlighted elements of the inclusionary dilemma. On one hand, Black church social networks assisted Obama in establishing a political career in Illinois politics. But this association with Black institutions, particularly Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ and Rev. Jeremiah Wright, would later become a political liability for Obama as he sought support from White voters in the 2008 general election. Thus, Obama's challenge was to simultaneously appear as an advocate for African American political interests and effectively represent the nation as a whole. Since Black faith communities primarily work to advance Black interests, President Obama's team may have limited their outreach and public backing of this constituency. At the same time, Obama called for policies with broad appeal among progressives. Using the inclusionary dilemma framework as an analytic lens, this chapter explores the administration's actions and the political interests of Black Christians. I briefly reflect on the actions of the current US president, Donald Trump, as they relate to religion and politics in Black communities.
Courting another block of voters he lost like the article says it's easy to believe Trump is winning over the young voters.
(The two pictures shown only show white people attending. Just an observation.)
QuoteAnd this is certainly a Trump show. At the Huntington Place Convention Center in downtown Detroit, a bejeweled presidential seal with Trump's face in the center rests on the hood of a gold-painted Mercedes-Benz. At a nearby booth among dozens, vendors are selling "America First" cowboy hats and shirts reading, "Voting Convicted Felon, 2024."

Trump's visit to the church in Detroit as part of his black outreach also seemed to be a majority white audience.

It was interesting to hear him boast of the lowest poverty rate of all time for African Americans when that actually occurred in 2022 according to the census bureau the lowest since 1959. Maybe his years were good for African Americans, I'll give him that, but it kind of falls flat when Biden did better.
