The First Days of Nursing School by the Fall 2009ers!!!

Nursing Students General Students

Alright well I have been wanting to post this for a very long time! Since I first logged on to allnurses I couldn't wait until it was my turn to say, I am a nursing student!!!

So, technically, yesterday was my first day but I was only there for a couple hours. We went right into lecture about the history of nursing and how it's ever changing. We also learned about the different educational paths a nurse can take, but I already did that research beforehand on allnurses :p

Today was mainly orientation and a welcome to our nursing class. We went more in depth about what to expect and also dissected our huge textbook-like syllabus. I am not joking about the size of that syllabus, it's insane. Since starting I have been reading nonstop. We have already been assigned about five chapters to read from our fundamentals book, which is not the most interesting of reads, but it's doable. I'm just overwhelmed really, probably because they talked a lot about what is to come. Over the next month, three papers are due and at the end of each semester we are taking the ATI tests. If we fail those, well then we have to take the course over.

Today was also one of our lab days. So for lab, we watched two videos about ensuring infection control by washing hands and applying ppe and then of course we had to do it. The basics for right now. Tomorrow is another lab day, bedmaking and body mechanics. So I guess I should get back to reading a couple more chapters and stop playing around on allnurses. I am just so happy to have finally made it. I'm still in a state of shock. Somebody pinch me.

I went on the school website and copied all the ISBN numbers down and went to amazon and got my books with free shipping saved $85 plus free shipping.

I have orientation on Thurs and Friday 8-3, and starts on Mon 8/17. It's hard to wait. :) good luck everyone!

i had orientation yesterday and got all my books and pda! I never knew a pda would be as fun as it is! The book store did not have any fundamental books and said it would be the end of next week before they got any in and that is the only book they told us to bring monday when classes start!

congrats to us all!!! my orientation is next week, but classes dont start until 08/31......for you guys who are starting before classes on the 24th, PLEASE post your experience!! this is so exciting!

I start on the 20th and we were sent an email about 2 weeks ago to start reading our Fundamentals book (the first 300 pages!) for the first day of class. Best of luck to all of you that have started school and to those waiting to start

I just went and picked up all my books... looking through them made me remember how overwhelmed I felt at orientation.

Run, don't walk, to Amazon.com right now and find that book! It might be worth it to pay two day shipping. Though, I'm sure the school will understand if the bookstore is out... but it seems like they should have ordered more, huh?

I have orientation Aug 26 & 27 9 am-7 pm..Then classes starting Wednesday September 9th. To say I am excited would be an understatement!

I'm so excited that we're all going to be going through this experience together =)

I don't start until Monday, August 31st. And my orientation was back in May .. maybe June I believe. I can't buy my books until August 17th, which stinks, but what can ya do. I had a 4 day nursing course over the summer which basically went over the handbook & a couple chapters in a contemporary nursing book. I'm ready to start, but I'm very nervous. My first class is a lecture, it'll be from 10:30AM to 12:30PM. Not bad at all.

Specializes in ICU.

You all are so lucky! I don't start until September 23rd. I'm definitely anxious!!!!

they never got any books so no one in our school has it yet! I had to take out a loan to get my books and the school will not disburse money until sept sometime. my husband wrecked our 4 wheeler on the 4th of july and we are really broke so i have to buy it in the book store!
