Thanks to every that has replyed to my posting. Since I work in a hospital now very part time, I have learned so much. I know that there are many different jobs in nursing and The older ladies may need to look into other type paperwork and management jobs instead of bedpan nursing. That is that is the hardest anyway. There are case management nurses, pallitative nurses, and also legal nurses. I am just going to get through the nursing program first and worry about that later. Thanks again. I will keep everyone posted if I have anything to report.

Hey PatientlyWaiting, Where are you now in the nursing school process?? I wanted to find out because I was 52 and in nursing school and the menopause was at its peek. I was taking 2 classes along with nursing and traveling some distance. I ended up with one point too low for my second semester. The stress made my menopausal symptoms be heightened. I got on bio-identical hormone cream (Not HRT) which really made a difference. I got blood tests to see what my vitamin d, estrogen, progesterone, and several others. I was low in estrodil and progesterone. No more hot flashes at all. I dropped out and registerd for a school closer to home and was supposed to start Jan 2011, now that night and weekend program closed and I will have to wait until fall 2011. I dont want to start at 54 years old, but due to the economy; I will venture forth and try again. I am studying a nursing book from my local college every month until school starts. That should help. Just wanted to touch base and see if my suggestion would help.

Paige, We had Rappahanock students at our hosptial yesterday. I guess you can expect to do clinicals at Mary Immaculate. I am not sure where they go. About the taking courses over again. I had to take several because mine were over 7 years old. I was a middle school science teacher. I had to take biology and ended up in a class with one of my students who had just graduated from high school. He was looking, and said, "man, weren't you my 8th grade teacher?" I was able to get out of that class and take an online/3 saturday class. That is why I dont wat to go back to any Community Colleges again.

Paige, I am glad for you! No since in paying the money if you can go somewhere else. I have met a few MCI grads, and Thomas Nelson, and they don't seem anymore advanced than some that come out of hospital schools. For a few of them, I am shocked that they passed their tests. You will get extra experience you need. i.e., in a hospital when when you sign on to a hospital. I work in a hospital and watch the new nurses get 3 months of orientation to that particular floor before they are on their own. Just focus on passing the tests in nursing school and writing your weekly clinical worksheets. For me, I will have to go to Riverside, because I can't wait another year or two. I will not have any pre-reqs left.

I am going to take the Sept 2011 class also, since the Night and Weekend program closed. I wll get titles of the books and pre-read the material. I feel I can read one book a month, that will help me. See you in September. Robin

The prereq classes are not free. I know that you can test out and if you pass you pay $350.00, if you fail you just pay $150.00. Really read the schdule of classe fees when they give you one. I will attend a second financial aid meeting and see what price they really want from me. I just wish they did not have the hidden agenda of$$$. If they would be honest it would be better. In my particular case, they will take all my financial aid and make me get another loan to pay them even more cash since they are so overly money hungry.

thanks bob, i am in the process of appling to riverside. i just hope that they let me in. i was at another hosptial nursing school taking a full load, 2 classes, started a new parttime job, and the full time nursing program. i traveled 2 hrs to get to the program because i thought it was the only 2 day a week program around. i also took my cna. i did not make my 80% on my final and ended up with a "d" in second semester. i am not sure if riverside will let me in because i attended another nursing school and now i have an unsatisfactory. but i have a 3.0 in my prereq's. i will try!! that is the only reason i will have to go to mci.

I am reporting from my financial aid meeting with MCI. I was given a financial aid report estimate. They did not go over my transcripts and see what would transfer. I was told to wait until the application process was complete and I could find out what classes they would accept upon accptance into the school. Cant wait that long to find out few will transfer. I am applying to a second school as a backup. I will also make sure they can hold onto their accreditation. I still am hoping they will be up front about their school without an agenda of momey and hidden costs.

Hey, I am moonlighting a a hospital as a unit secretary as I go through nursing school. The problem is with the supervisors in charge. In my hospital, several directors, charge nurses, and nursing supervisors take the time to tell people that they are going great, working hard and it is a hour to hour communication. I work surgery floor where there is so much turnover. They actually hired a PR nurse supervisor to keep the relations and stress down. This is what it takes to help women work together. I hope that your unit learns the art of positive praise. You could start it and speak privately to your supervisor about staff morale.

i am applying to mci aug 10. they are accepting 25 of my credits, but make me take pysch and say since it it over so many years. i am a prior teacher and m. ed. still have to take english 101 . they still want 30,000 to 40,000. you will not get your books that you pay for; they keep them and recycle them, even though you pay for full price of books. you will pay for the classes regardless if you sit in the class. they want $$$$ per semester. so full time you could be $16,000 in debt and if you don't pass that is only 8 months. i would suggest taking all prereqs at a community college. then when you transfer them in you only have the nursing. even though you will still pay as if you are taking the full load. you will only have to focus on the nursing and make the 80% rule. it it the only way to get in without a waiting list. i have talked with several students who has attended or now attending. they approve of the teachers and are happy at the school. this has helped me to make the decision to go to mci. right now they are under sacs accreditation warning. they could loose the accreditation june 2010. i hope that they have worked hard enough to get the accreditation and will not under any circumstances loose it. i know that this is a contract and they could be sued by the students who will not get their accreditated certification upon graduation.

:redbeatheThank you so much for your honest information. I feel sometimes recruiters are making pitches for their schools. This response seems like the real thing. I will be completing my application process. They said that they would take my A&P and Micro now that they are finally NLN accredited. I will keep everyone informed about my application process and just what really happens. I know that MCI has had a somewhat bad reputation. All I care about is completing a program and passing my NCLEX. I just spent 2 semesters in Bon Secours and the 101 Instructor treated us as if she hated her job. I expected to get that at a community college or MCI. Now it does not matter. You may have to teach the information to yourself, almost where ever you attend.

I am interested in CLEPing the Sociology exam also. I am glad you responded. My question is concerning the questions proposed that concern the Sociologists that are talked about in the text. I am afraid I will not be able to remember which Sociologist said what in the history of sociology. I can remember the information about sociology. Are there a lot of questions concerning the names of the sociologists?? Thanks

thank you for sharing this information concerning showing appreciation to the mentor nurse. i am really gaining so much information in this website that i feel i am going to have a really great start. i will remember to say "thank you" to the nurses each day. i hope in the process, they will want to continue to serve others as mentor nurses.
