Well, I am where we have been belted with snow. They are using the "B" word again....yup BLIZZARD and not of the Dairy Queen Blizzard.
Any one else dealing with this mess?
What are the facilities doing to keep nurses safe?
Here in the south any threat of snow is scary because we are so unprepared for it . More often than not we end up with more ice than snow and that can mean downed power lines. Back in 94 we had an "ice storm" that left us without power for almost 2-weeks . Our forecast is calling for ice tonight. Hopefully it won't hang around long. I am so thankful I don't live where it's cold. I don't know if I would survive!!
I really feel for the hospital nurses in this... especially for the ones who depend on public transportation. When I worked in the hospital, I was always within reasonable walking distance (3-6 miles away) so if the T shut down, I would walk home. On Monday, it snowed heavily all day. The MBTA tried to function and failed miserably then decided that they were shutting down at 7PM. So they got all the day shift nurses in and left them with no way to get home. The City of Boston originally suggested that hospital staff needing to get to work (the MBTA closed all day Tuesday) call 911 if they needed a ride. They then amended their statement and suggested that people call the non-emergency line at the police station. MBTA's already announced they're not running tomorrow. Some of my former colleagues are sleeping either at the hospital or at a hotel next door. It's already disastrous out there and the worst of it isn't coming until after midnight.
Gosh that's awful! What are the people in outlying areas doing? I'd imagine unless you work at one of the major hospitals there probably aren't hotels right next door if you can't get back home. Are clinics just closed? And what about the LTC/SNF folks? Most of those facilities seem to be off the beaten path a bit, at least where I live.

Clinics have been closing quite a bit and rescheduling patients. Today is Sunday and tomorrow is a holiday so most clinics aren't open anyway but the last 3 Monday/Tuesdays have been disastrous.
The major hospitals all have hotels right next door but, you're right, the smaller ones don't. I don't know what people who work at those hospitals are doing, I don't know anyone who works at a community hospital. Same with LTCs. I imagine a lot of nurses have been stranded for days.
So that picture of the path to our woodshed? It's 2/3 full of snow that came in since midnight (it's almost 2pm and has mostly stopped coming down now). And the driveway is 3-4 feet deep AGAIN.
Our cats are fit to be tied, since they can get out to the enclosed screen porch through the cat door, but when they nose up against the one going to the outside, nothing happens. Because five foot drift over it outside.
I'm tired of this.
Are you all getting the wind with the snow? We lost a chunk of fence from this wind. It's horrible. Couldn't sleep last night from the noise of it.
Yes to the wind for this storm. I'm waist deep in snow everywhere. My deck has at least 5 feet on it, I'm expecting to be able to open my back door sometime around June.
