Well, I am where we have been belted with snow. They are using the "B" word again....yup BLIZZARD and not of the Dairy Queen Blizzard.
Any one else dealing with this mess?
What are the facilities doing to keep nurses safe?
I now live down south. I don't really like the culture here but I love the weather and it's the only thing keeping me here. Lived up north for 36 years and I have to say I don't miss the snow. It's pretty when it first falls but it is less and less pretty when you are sliding off the road getting stuck in a ditch. Be safe everyone!
I admit I do look at people down here real crazy when they complain about 50 degrees being cold. I'll tell them I consider cold being -25 degrees. I kindly show them the forecast from where I'm from and they quickly change the subject.
I have managed to not work in one of our blizzards so far, my luck has run out and am working tomorrow. It has been brutal.....but at the same time fun. The boys have shoveled the roof off and then jumped off the roof into the pile! My dad had to used his front end loader to remove quite a bit of snow from our front yard. The snowmobiling is awesome(unless you get off the trail....then you sink).
I can just say I am ready for spring....but a slow thaw please.
Hey, New Englanders, (specifically those North of Boston) was it in the late 70's or early 80's when the snow was so high, if you would've walked at its height, the telephone lines would be about waist high? I remember my Mom sending me newspaper stories and photos ; some cars were lost for weeks and even the National Guard had a hard time clearing the roads of snow with their big specialized trucks. The reason I remember that is that it was just after I'd moved South, and Nashville had some flurries, but the weatherman was calling it a "terrible storm" and it totaled all of 3 inches, 3 'awesome' inches. Ppffftt!
Are you talking about the blizzard of '78? I remember it well. I was driving on Rte. 128 and my car started to slow down (on it's own! ) because the snow was so heavy. When I went out to get my car after a few days, the only thing I could see was the top of my antenna
. That, and Mike Dukakis in his sweater.....
Don't miss it at all!!

My freshman year in college in Boston we had a big storm. School was closed even though we all lived on campus because the faculty couldn't get in. I walked to a movie and coming back to my dorm I tripped on an object in the sidewalk. On closer inspection it turned out to be the top of a parking meter...

Amen to the slow thaw idea. On top of the rediculous mounds of snow there is a huge risk of fast melt before the ground thaws. From feet on top of feet of snow to a flood...sounds real fun [not]!
Stares..... I will not complain about our sub-zero weekend commencing.
It still is uncomfortable though, especially when waiting for public transportation.
I'm more lower, but snow is expected today; brutal cold during grocery shopping today, the positive is I get to watch the snow come down with a full belly.
Everyone stay safe!
Hi Esme
I'm here in CT...and I am so so so tired of the white stuff! My hubby has to snow blow a path for the old girl to go out too. She's got bad hips so trecking through the snow isn't one of her favorite things. Anyway...was just watching the snow fall..yet again.
I've had to drive either into work during the uncountable snow storms we've had or driving home in it. And we can count today as another I have to drive into work for tonight I'm so over it! Bring on Spring.
We have four cats, one of which is a real outdoors gal. She has been in and out about six times today, the last one coming in covered with snow and the buckle on her collar really icy cold. I think she knows that in about 8 hours that cat door will be snowed in and she'll be stuck inside until we dig it out. Again.
We have another who's a southern kitty, came to us from the tropical Soufland and really, really hates cold. She's been bouncing off the walls because she can't go out and run around (well, she can, but she comes running back inside in about 10 seconds with a hurt look on her face, like it's all our fault). And my spider plants are all gnawed on because there's four feet of snow on all the grass she likes to graze on.
Snowing now. Eeesh.
Yeah, still no snow here. Our forecasted snow arrived yesterday, maybe an inch to add the 3 we already had. Temp is still in the basement though, high today is 2 degrees. So sorry for you guys that are dealing with this snow. Seems I keep hearing news about people just getting shoveled out only to have more on the way.

If we can build an oil pipeline from Canada to Mexico, why can't we build a line to drain all your snow melt from the Northeast to the Southwest?
Our last real blizzard here was years ago. Not to say the mountains and northern towns haven't gotten totally dumped on, but not like back East.
