Well, I am where we have been belted with snow. They are using the "B" word again....yup BLIZZARD and not of the Dairy Queen Blizzard.
Any one else dealing with this mess?
What are the facilities doing to keep nurses safe?
I left Boston on January 16 for what I thought was an 11 day vacation. When I booked that trip, I said to Mother Nature "as long as you don't snow on January 16, you can do whatever you want on January 26." And BOY did she listen. Got stranded in Miami x 2 days for the first blizzard on January 26 and it's been back to back to back storms since I finally got home. I expect to be able to open my back door some time around June. My recycling bin and trash barrel are completely buried under 6 feet of snow so I've taken to throwing my garbage in the barrel that my neighbor is using as a space saver to save a parking space in front of my house.
I have lived up here my entire life and, honestly, this is the worst snow removal job I've ever seen. I do realize this is an unprecedented amount of snow but, c'mon. I am a visiting nurse with primarily an inner city population. There is no parking anywhere. I'm basically leaving my car in the middle of the road with my hazards on hoping no one hits it or tows it. Worse still when there's a snow emergency/parking ban- many of my patients live on the main roads. Pediatric cancer doesn't stop for snow and, therefore, neither can I. It took me TWO HOURS to drive 6 miles the other day. I basically had to crawl on my hands and knees to get into a patient's house the other day... for many patients, we'd be able to say "you didn't shovel, so the nurse couldn't get in, go to the clinic" but for a child protection case, the threat of "if you don't shovel the nurse won't be able to come" would probably be met with a family saying "if we don't shovel, we don't have to see the nurse, let's not shovel!"
I don't know how ya'll stand it! I've never seen snow and have no desire to do so, probably because I start to freeze if the temp falls below 70. I love 90s and muggy:). It's so funny to watch the winter visitors strolling on the beach in shorts while the rest of us are wearing coat, hat, gloves! My brother moved to Cape Cod a couple decades ago . . . I bet he's regretting it now. Wish I could send you some warmth!

When I was stuck in Miami during the first blizzard I was watching coverage on the Today Show. After Al Roker gave his national forecast, they cut to the local news for the local forecast. The weatherman says "there's a chill in the air this morning." It was 58 degrees out at 7am. That's summer to us.
My back hurts just looking at that walkway!!!I guess I'll keep my complaints about the wind we've had to myself! Mid Atlantic is dry, dry. I keep waiting for the wind to bring warm weather but instead it just keeps making it colder. I'm afraid of what my electric bill will be.
That looks the work of a snowblower to me. :)

LOL!! My coat comes on when it gets below 75! I bought my coat over 30 years ago when I went to college in Gainesville:rolleyes:.

I'm still like that even though most of my life was spent in the northeast...was born in Cali, and after 25+ years, I still wear a jacket or at least a sweater unless it is 80 degrees!
I really feel for the hospital nurses in this... especially for the ones who depend on public transportation. When I worked in the hospital, I was always within reasonable walking distance (3-6 miles away) so if the T shut down, I would walk home. On Monday, it snowed heavily all day. The MBTA tried to function and failed miserably then decided that they were shutting down at 7PM. So they got all the day shift nurses in and left them with no way to get home. The City of Boston originally suggested that hospital staff needing to get to work (the MBTA closed all day Tuesday) call 911 if they needed a ride. They then amended their statement and suggested that people call the non-emergency line at the police station. MBTA's already announced they're not running tomorrow. Some of my former colleagues are sleeping either at the hospital or at a hotel next door. It's already disastrous out there and the worst of it isn't coming until after midnight.
I would be happy with 72 degrees all the time, never any hotter, and I'd say that my preferred lowest low would be 50 degrees. Then most of the time I wouldn't have to wear a coat. Rain would be fine; I actually do like a rainy day as long as it's not rain that just leads to more steamy humidity, or rain with a wicked chill to it.
Yeah, I know: Dream On!
Yup.. chest deep in snow... and it just keeps coming down. I am really hoping that this could be the last large storm of the season, but I doubt it very much.
I just transported a CA patient to the ER, who was experiencing nausea and who is stage IV heading into hospice care at some point soon, so no matter how crappy the weather gets and how nasty mother nature is, I am thankful that I am not sick like this poor person and that as far as I know my time left on earth is years and not weeks or days.
