This is my very first post, but I could not resist any longer. I am a nursing student and I have been enjoying this board for the last few months and though I just now logged in, I wanted to tell all of you how much I appreciate the intelligent and "real" conversations and advice that I find here.

Sometimes, I feel bad about the things that others are going through and sometimes I just laugh til it hurts. It is good to see that nurses have a great sense of humor.....which by the way is NOT allowed in nursing school. More importantly though is that I can see how much you all care for one another, your fellow nurses, and the profession itself. You are the reason that I get up at 4am and go to clinical and why I wrestle with my care plans until the wee hours of the morning...because I see that nurses are a wonderful, caring and intelligent bunch of people and because someday I hope to a part of that.

My fourth year of school will start in August and then only 2 semesters to go! I am very excited and nervous about that. I am 31, married and 3 kids, so it has been a long road. Thanks for the motivation!

God Bless!:

Welcome Gator! Nice to meet you!

Hope this was the first of many, many posts!

Welcome to the board, Gator......as for the sense of humor not allowed in nursing school..........please tell me this isn't true!!!!

Welcome Gator! A sick warped twisted sense of humor is a job requirement. And just as in nursing school, be careful to show you have a sense of humor in front of any suits!!! That's why I work nights. Much easier to blow off steam!!

Best of luck in school and hope to see plenty of posts from you in the future! May will be here before you know it!

Welcome to Allnurses.com! Be sure to keep posting!

Welcome aboard.... and a big "Hey" from Tennessee

I am a clincial Instructor and have been for 1.5 yrs. I make it a point to have fun in my clinicals! I remember my teachers and the ones I remember are the ones who smiled. I knew they liked their job. Find those. Nursing is not all hard work.

Welcome Gator,

We had lots of fun in nursing school. A sense of humor was a prerequisite for survival. We took care of each other during class and clinical, getting through the challenging rotations, and had some laughs along the way. Just like Fedupnurse and WalMart_ADN implied, not everyone understands or appreciates nurse humor.

Hopefully your classmates stick together and help each other. That makes nursing school so much easier, and it's good experience for how nurses should be supportive of each other in the "real world". You are right about Allnurses. There is a mutually supportive and nurturing atmosphere here.

Best wishes for your last year. :)

Chuck
