  1. orientation for 12 weeks on my pedi. onc. floor....then a 2 day chemo class... then the test....and now we just get our meds double signed, which is standard practice. but before our chemo class...didn't touch the stuff..which was fine with me. now i feel very comfortable givign cytotoxic drugs, plus i always know i can ask more experiance nurses or look things up in the floor chemo resource manual. you need to do what it takes until you feel comfortable giving these drugs, or maybe switch to days for a while, where the seasoned nurses are. CYA, my friend, CYA!
  2. If i take a travel assignment, can i stay in pediatrics? or do i have to work where they tell me?
  3. got back 1100 from a kiddo (well, i think he was like 16) s/p non-ruptured appy....he had a psych history and kept saying...."it's my fault i can't pee...it's MY FAULT I CAN'T PEE!!.....after the straight cath he went right to sleep lol......
  4. we use PICCS on our heme/onc kiddo's all the time....why stick them when they have perfectly good central access? just make sure you flush them really well, with at least 10cc's (this is for kids, may be different for adults)and they shouldn't cause you any problems...
  5. ever try to do a manual on a 3 year old? or an infant? not gonna happen. we occasionally do manuels on older kids if it's indicated by some wacky numbers with the machines. And i like doing my own vitals..i gotta assess the kiddo anyway, no sense in 2 people going in and botherign them....
  6. very very lax reverse isolation with my heme/onc kiddos......wear a mask if they are going down to the cafeteria/lobby w/ mom, not necessary if they are just going to the playroom (the really sick kids won't be in the playroom anyway) and they go home when they have been afebrile for 48 hours.
  7. an hour and 10 minutes each way. i hate all 98 miles of it.
  8. uhh....that's not naive...that's dumb. I am 19 and did not go to nursing school, work my a$$ off, lose touch with all my friends from HS, to end up with the ultimate goal of marrying a dr.! If she is old enough/mature enough to think she is ready to handle being in nursing school, she is old enough/mature enough to realize she will NOT HAVE TIME TO DATE MED STUDENTS!!
  9. "you must be jamaican....cause jamaican me crazy!" "your father must have been a juice man cause you are VERY FINE" **Booooooo***
  10. snuggling with the bf the other night...little did i know i was palpating the veins left forearm...suddenly i hear..uhh....what are you doing??...i guess i had some explaning to do....
