Student Nurse "Help me!" Threads

Published

I think I'm done answering student nurse help me threads here.

I've gotten rude answers, or they never even bother coming back to the thread to acknowledge the answers they received.

Some will ask life choice questions like "Where should I move?" or "Where should I apply?". Do they think someone is going to offer them a job here, is that why they start these threads? You have the whole internet to research towns, cities, regions, but instead you post a thread asking a bunch of strangers where you should move?

Some help me threads seem to be 'Help me do my homework' threads.

Thank you for reading.

That's true. I hadn't thought about it that way. I also figure we might have to protect people from themselves, but I'm just feeling especially cynical right now. I think it's the dreary weather.

There are a couple of threads on the front page I just want to reply "NO" too right now. Bonus points to anyone who spots them.

LOL...I was thinking the same thing yesterday.

As a pre nursing student I look at these threads. I was reading one the other day and I thanked Esme and GrnTea for how helpful they are because those threads have helped me. I may just be lurking that day and reading up on what is going on and those two especially are preparing me for nursing school. They are helping me learn how to think like a nurse and how to do care plans. I really appreciate them and the people who take the time to respond to them. I know there are a lot of pointless topics started on here, but you have no idea who they may be helping. It may not just be the OP.

If it annoys you, then don't go into the student area. It's that simple.

It amazes me sometimes how Esme and GrnTea have the patience to help students. It's not just the act of helping, but the depth and thought they put into it that must be so time consuming. I think all the time, "I really hope this poster appreciates the effort put into them."

I'm also very excited to start reading "The Mockery of Nursing". ?

To avoid those repetitive student posts, I've found that by clicking on "Nurses" (in the top, bright yellow bar) and then selecting "what's new," it will generate all new posts under any of the sub-fora for general nursing. Same for "Specialties," "Critical," etc. Cuts out all the NCLEX posts I don't want to see, but also means that I don't have to mark anything as read.

Hope that helps someone!

I hesitate to say how much time I have spent reading this thread, but in my defense I learned some new things! Like how to multi-quote and edit my introduction. Thank you to those who shared their knowledge on that.

Learning new things is good.

OMG what happened to this thread?!

Every single job I have ever had, I have taken reading materials home to learn on my own time. Even at restaurants you have to learn the menu. Personal responsibility and accountability! When it's your job and a patient's life hanging in the balance, why in the world wouldn't you WANT to learn every possible thing up front, even if on your own time?

My mind is completely blown. Sarah, you are your own enemy in this scenario and I know you're going to have some excuse as to how I'm wrong but let's face it. You're telling us you get down talked for not being willing to find answers to your questions, and you've basically said outright you're not willing to put in the time it takes to learn the answers to your questions, because YES, it WILL require hours of your life outside of work. This is not the unit's nurses' fault. It's yours. This is your responsibility! Apparently someone forgot to tell you in nursing school that part of nursing will be continuing education...... On your own time.

I know I shouldn't feed the frenzy because the fun is coming back to the thread but good grief. If I were your boss, I would be searching my social media policy to see what kind of disciplinary response I could have to your behavior here.

And again, this thread was about the INTERNET. Not about face to face, real world stuff.

Anyway, back to bippies, batlings, and mockeries.

By the way, where can I sign up for the Crusty Old Bats Club? :)

Ahem. I believe I already said, pages back, that monies pertaining to COBS go to me, the self-appointed treasurer.
