Student Nurse "Help me!" Threads

Published

I think I'm done answering student nurse help me threads here.

I've gotten rude answers, or they never even bother coming back to the thread to acknowledge the answers they received.

Some will ask life choice questions like "Where should I move?" or "Where should I apply?". Do they think someone is going to offer them a job here, is that why they start these threads? You have the whole internet to research towns, cities, regions, but instead you post a thread asking a bunch of strangers where you should move?

Some help me threads seem to be 'Help me do my homework' threads.

Thank you for reading.

only fair, a portion should go to morte's Rio in '16 fund......lol

There are no rules and no dues, although you can send a check to the GrnTea Cozumel fund if you want.

If you feel you are old and crusty, you can copy the siggy line (or make on of your own) and we will welcome you with open wings, err, arms.

You know, I never thought of just copying your soggy line -- hope you don't mind that I did so. I think we'll all agree that I'm a charter member of the Crusty Old Bat Society -- and if you need proof, go to "The Mockery of Nursing" thread. Only don't do it too late at night or you'll be up all night laughing!

Been here all along laughing.

Hi, honey!

You bet your bippy you have a bippy...just don't ask me to point it out for you!

As far as using one's personal picture and name...well. If you feel comfortable posting on a board like this how your preceptors were inadequate, your preceptorship was inadequate, you don't know your unit P&P, etc., as Julius Caesar would say, " Newbie emptor."

The word in the original meaning "beware" is "caveat."

You mean, "Caveat newbie." Maybe. That would mean, "Newbie (I'm talking to you), (you should) beware."

As for the rest of us, my Latin isn't good enough to say, "Newbie! Beware!"

Sheesh, take a weekend off and look what happens!

Who was it allergic to flowers? Here's a bouquet for you!

Another great one, although this may have already been mentioned, "I need to interview a nurse but I don't know anybody, someone please answer theses questions" really?!? You don't know anyone! Gonna add up how many times that question is posted on a daily basis on of these days

I also tire of the "I have a 98.7% average, here are all my individual grades in each class so you can see! I'm soooooOooOoooOOO worried that my marks won't be good enough for admission to any school ever! What do U guys think?" Threads.

Although I'm sure some of them are genuine, I can't help but think some of them are fishing for compliments.

No one is saying that you need to chain yourself to a desk and become a social recluse. But yes, some of your learning does have to take place after hours if you want to become proficient at what you do.

The last time I changed specialties, I spent several hours each week at home doing continuing ed from the specialty organization pertaining to my job. It helped me feel less at sea in a new specialty I knew little about, and it showed my employer that I was serious about becoming a valued member of the staff. I also copied pertinent policies and took them home for review, e.g. what to do if a pt. has a reaction to a particular chemotherapeutic agent.

If you find doing work at home too onerous, then you should probably seek employment in an area that is less demanding. You can't have it both ways.

When I sought a certification for a newish specialty awhile back, I had a huge (and damned expensive) textbook that took me all summer to study. And I am decades removed from formal schooling, though I do CE all the damn time.

I agree, don't think because you're out of school that your education is over. You aren't even started yet. And that includes acquiring reading material you can't scan online and call it a day.

Another one worth mentioning " I have a rash on my bippy that is in the shape of a shoe. I was taking care of a patient that had a rash too. Do you think I caught it?" I sometimes wanna change my name to WebMD and answer these.

I'm not sure if I'm crusty enough, but I'm rather cynical. May I start a offshoot of the COB society? Cynical Old Biddies?

You can start an offshoot, but you gotta choose different initials! There is only ONE COB society!

You could go for Dr. Seuss, WebMD with that kind of poetic flare...
