Student Nurse "Help me!" Threads

Published

I think I'm done answering student nurse help me threads here.

I've gotten rude answers, or they never even bother coming back to the thread to acknowledge the answers they received.

Some will ask life choice questions like "Where should I move?" or "Where should I apply?". Do they think someone is going to offer them a job here, is that why they start these threads? You have the whole internet to research towns, cities, regions, but instead you post a thread asking a bunch of strangers where you should move?

Some help me threads seem to be 'Help me do my homework' threads.

Thank you for reading.

This is what I don't get about the "good pop-up." If you aren't going to believe that it means you passed, why bother with the PVT at all? You either believe in it or don't.

Today I feel crusty, and old, and batty...yesterday I did not. Is that society one in which I can go in and out of for the days I am feeling less old, crustless, and not too batty? :)

How much reassurance does a person need?

Also, how about the "I made one tiny mistake and now I feel like the world is ending and everyone hates me, I don't deserve to be a nurse" threads?

Believe me, from experience, you could end up without a job based on any comments you make or post. Happened to me, last job, and I stated facts with proof. Got canned anyway. Luckily, I ended up better off. But in the current employment climate, absolutely no job is safe. We are just trying to give you insights to our experiences. No one is trying to be mean that I can see. BTW, I'm not a newbie (10 yrs med/surg, LRC, ICU, and home health), but not a crusty old bat either....just old enough to be one lol! Lighten up

How not? Do you not think my concerns about older nurses haven't been brought to the attention of management and beyond? I assure you that they have.

Please refer me to the section where an account can be suspended for such behavior. From what I was referred to prior, it was merely a suggestion as to avoid any repercussions. I have posted on here several times and not heard from any site owner/moderator with so much as a threat to have my account suspended.

To clarify....posters can use their own name and picture if they so with...they cannot post others information, names, and pictures. However...we encourage posters to maintain their privacy.

While AN is anonymous (less so if you use your real information) it is public and can be seen and used by anyone. It is an increasing policy in HR departments that they "look up" potential hires on social media and they do monitor employees behavior and habit through this method as well.

Many have lost their jobs because of social media.

Thats why you do what my class did. We mostly all tested on the same day at the same time. After we went to the bar, grabbed some greasy burgers, shared a few drinks, told our horror stories and then waited patiently until the next day when we checked the BON site.

But being armed with that information from someone who might have a good insight never hurts so that said person can make an informed decision.

Getting information is great, but flat out asking people who do not know you what you should do is, in my opinion, foolish. Ask for information, but don't ask "what me myself and I should do." You'll just end up with varying opinions. What you should seek instead is various facts.

OK, here goes my first comment. I am not a nurse or LPN, but I am a CNA. I got my certification in South Carolina. I am Canadian but married an American citizen and lived there for 4 years and got my certification. I have moved back to Canada, BC to be specific and they will not recognize my certification. I have a years experience in LTC/Rehab. I love my job and am so disappointed that I cannot use my education here. Has anyone else had this experience and what did you do? Please don't tell me you redid the course, I refuse to give the BC government my hard earned money(working at Walmart and EA at schools). Do all of the Provinces have this policy? I would appreciate any and all comments.

Thank you in advance.

No advice, but that sucks.

I was wondering when we'd hear from you!

Not to bring up "she who shall not be name" (I don't want to get off track), but I am embarrassed to admit that when I was a student and new grad that I often had that "righteous indignation" and shook my fist at the world and "how I was being treated". And I was the only one and my situation was sooooo unique! Thankfully I usually limited it to just a handful of posts and then I would slink away and wonder what went wrong (ah ha! Self-reflection!). I guess in other situations I can commend the commitment to a cause but I have a strong feeling that 5 years down the road, she's going to look back at the posts and not be as proud of all of it.

Seven years later and I have clumsily crash landed my way into a comfortable and happy existence that allows me to kick my feet up, not take things so seriously, and look back at my younger self (and some of my posts) and shake my head (and add a facepalm). My issues were more in my head than acted out at work thankfully and I'm hoping our new poster isn't creating a reputation she won't be able to correct.

I'm not "old" yet. I'm a pup, or pre-COB (did I hear BITlet mentioned), but I wear my patches of crustiness with pride. I had thought about looking into a crusty armor-all but I think once you go crusty you never go back. I want to be a full bat one day!
