Salary seems to be a fuzzy topic when it comes to new grads, the students in my cohort all have different expectations. We were wondering what all of you at allnurses would have to say. Hopefully, you are comfortable to share your starting salary.
If you have started as a new grad in the last 4 years, please reply with the city/state/department/ADN or BSN and hourly rate.
We are hoping it will be beneficial to know what to expect vs getting sticker shock! Thank you allnurses!
When I started 4 years ago (rural Missouri, med-surg/ADN) new grad starting pay was $17.50. It is now $18.50. With my whopping raises (all raises have now been suspended for 12 months) my base is $19.619/hr + $0.75/hr for "clinical ladder," 10% differential for nights, 20% for weekends. This is with benefits. Without benefits gives a 30% raise and you don't get the differentials any more. Overtime is prohibited and our benefits are slowly being phased out. Competition is fierce for even lower paying jobs (I just interviewed for one and discovered that I was one of 10 applicants for a $12.50-13.50/hr position)
I see the salaries in the different states but also wonder if anyone has thought about cost of living in those areas i.e the Californian coast. In am in suburbs of Philadelphia, new grad starting salary $23 although others pay more but the benefits are all paid and where I cost of living is very good so in the end I am happier than another job in the city where I would make $26-28 with unpaid benefits and higher taxes.
