New RN medication assessment
@Esme12 That was a funny link. I actually did the research before I post my comment. I know alot of people post on this site without actually committing to the work behind it. Thanks all, I think I will just do what I started to do which is to review the meds from Kaplan. I appreciate all the comments. Also, this exam is not purely assessment because it has to be passed with a min of 80% otherwise you have to retest. Thanks again

New RN medication assessment
Thanks, meandragonbrett, as I said in my post, I am very fine with assessments. My concern was if there has been anything used in the past to prepare for these assessments. Thanks for your comment. :)

Stupid q's: Has smoking cigarettes kept you from getting a job?
I started to see that requirement and talked to some of my instructors who smoked. Where I live my state is an at will employer/employee state so in essence these practices are allowed. I am still debating whether it is right. BTW, I don't smoke and never tried but I don't know if I'm in the business of forcing others to stop something that may or may not kill them. We don't arrest diabetics so why are we doing this to smokers? This also brings to mind the abuse charges to parents with overweight kids. There are chubby kids who eventually lean out when they get older does this mean that the parents are at fault if they truly are raising a healthy child?

Starting Salary [new grad]?
I see the salaries in the different states but also wonder if anyone has thought about cost of living in those areas i.e the Californian coast. In am in suburbs of Philadelphia, new grad starting salary $23 although others pay more but the benefits are all paid and where I cost of living is very good so in the end I am happier than another job in the city where I would make $26-28 with unpaid benefits and higher taxes.

New RN medication assessment
Great! so I'm not sure if this has been asked before but I will ask now. I worked hard in school, studied hard for the nclex ( thank god I passed on first try) and I thought I was basically done with the exams I've seen before for a little bit. Yes, I do understand that I decided to be in a specialtyarea where continuing education and assessments by exam are necessary but I did not know that after my first week literally that Friday, I will be greeted with an exam to see how well I am with my meds and dosage calculations. Now, I've never been bad with dosage calc but I'm wondering what the meds portion is all about. Does any one have resources of any kind to help? I'm looking for a book or something because uynfortunately HR is not being so forth coming. It would be nice if I could prepare but I do not see any prep stuff. Would really appreciate it. Thanks

New RN medication assessment
So, I'm now hired and find out that the first week of orientation will include an adult and pediatric medication administration assessment where I have to pass 80%. Does anyone else have to do the same and what resources do you have available to help prepare? Should I be worried or is practicing for meds for the nclex enough? Thanks

Lehigh Valley Hospital Critical Care Internship job offer
Hi guys, Thanks so much for the replies. Actually, I received the official paperwork and they said evening and night diff is .75cents. I guess an extra quarter but just wanted to update. @RoamFreeRN are you still working at the hospital? I just went for the pre-employment assessment today and everyone seems so nice. I am a minority so the fact that so many people were nice, inviting and excited for me to start when in the past I've received the opposite reactions is a breath of fresh air. No one truly understands how people treat you until you are the only one of that complexion but I have not seen anyone else like me (yet) on my unit but I also don't feel like the elephant in the room. I'm getting wonderful vibes.

Lehigh Valley Hospital Critical Care Internship job offer
I found out today that I will be starting with the new group of interns in September at LVHN. Are there any others starting? I forgot to ask if there is differential pay for nightshift since that seems to be the shift available. Also, has anyone gone through the critical care residency? How did you feel? Are there any pros or cons to this program? The interview was excellent and the director was super nice. Would love to have a few people to talk to about this program and possibly reachout for the 24 week duration.

SO mad...and not sure I should be.
To also note, many may find that telling hey I'm in an incestual relationship so me and baby daddy decided to get rid of it may be too forward. I don't know of many abuse victims who a) are able to get an abortion b) tell you that they are pregnant because of incest. Maternal danger is a vague term because if I'm dehydrated and can't maintain fluids then it is maternal danger. Incest can cause fetal abnormalities so this could be all in one. Maybe people react the way that they want to react especially if they don't want someone to know about it. Being with abuse victims in the pass women are tough to crack and women will lie most of the time to protect the abuser. It is hard to judge.

SO mad...and not sure I should be.
"In cases of rape, incest, extreme youth, maternal danger, or a known fetal condition" Without knowing can you rule out that its not any of the above as her reasoning for terminating the pregnancy? All of those scenarios can be explained into your case except for the extreme youth and congenital condition. Sorry you had a bad day.
