Starting Salary [new grad]?

Published

Salary seems to be a fuzzy topic when it comes to new grads, the students in my cohort all have different expectations. We were wondering what all of you at allnurses would have to say. Hopefully, you are comfortable to share your starting salary.

If you have started as a new grad in the last 4 years, please reply with the city/state/department/ADN or BSN and hourly rate.

We are hoping it will be beneficial to know what to expect vs getting sticker shock! Thank you allnurses!

Specializes in ER, progressive care.

central TX, progressive care unit, BSN, $23.50 + shift differential (it's like $3 from 1900-2359 and close to $6 from 0000-0659. With my shift differential I was making about $29/hr).

Specializes in long-term-care, LTAC, PCU.

Diploma RN, Pittsburgh, no experience, LPN for 8 years prior to graduation but I was not given any credit for that (experience). I started out making $21.30/hr with pretty cheap but really good benifits. Several months later I quit and started working at a much smaller hospital that did give me some credit for my LPN experience. They started me out at 23.01/hr but the benifits were a little more expensive. However, it was a closer drive and free parking.

Now I work in a special needs school and make $16.00. The trade off is that it's Monday through Friday 8:30 to 4:00, no weekends, no holidays. (I'm also not a CSN).

Specializes in Leadership, Psych, HomeCare, Amb. Care.
I see the salaries in the different states but also wonder if anyone has thought about cost of living in those areas.
Very true. Cost of living can vary by 20% or more by area. Also benefit quality can vary greatly, even within the same market.

South Texas (everyone complains about working here if they're not from here but I like it)

BSN (no difference in pay from ADNs)

Med-Surg/Telemetry

Day shift

Less than 1 year experience (started in Jan. of this year)

Base pay is $22.53, then once I got ACLS certified, went to $23.53, plus shift diff +$3.00 for 1500-1900 as well as occasional overtime, no shift diff for weekends. Also includes benefits (crappy, but they're there).

I am making as much as I was teaching high school English but I only work 3 days/wk...so I'm not complaining! :loveya:
