If I hear that phrase here one more time, I might have to slap you in the forehead. Stop. Please.
I'm okay with being the Crusty Old Bat on my unit, it is quite rewarding when the sparkly-pants-pretty-princess has to come groveling to me when all the computer systems crash and this Old Hag is the only one who knows how to do the downtime procedures.
Passing meds without a MAK or a Pyxis system, what??? Internal requisition forms for lab, radiology, pharmacy, what???
I used to love a good 4 hour shift. No commitment, get in, get busy, get out. When I was per diem I fulfilled most of my weekend requirements that way. A nurse left early for a party, I would swoop in at 3 and be done by 7:30.
Very nice.
A princess shift is over so fast it doesn't even feel like work, which is probably where the name came from. On my unit we have a regularly scheduled princess that's a helper. Pass meds, break people for lunch, draw labs, whatever to help people catch up. So you don't even have patients. Plus everyone cheers when you show up and is sorry when you leave. Just like a real princess.
