Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I have been on this forum a few months now and have found many heart warming stories of people going through the same thing I am. Many of the stories were uplifting and motivating just at the moment I needed them most. I want to extend a very warm thank you to each and everyone of you who have welcomed my comments and even prayed for me and with me on my journey to pass this test. I promise you that I did not ask for one prayer or well wish to which I did not return it to you in like manner.

I take my 3rd and final NCLEX tomorrow. If you have followed my postings you know I am was a nontraditional nursing student who graduated last year at the age of 56. I was following a my dream, my calling of being a nurse. Now, either way the test goes I will be returning to the workforce very soon so this is very likely the last time I will be taking the NCLEX. I simply cannot afford to keep taking it. That may be difficult for some of you to understand but it's the simple truth. I'm simply too old to start all over from scratch again and that is just about the position I have put myself in with continuing this quest of becoming a RN. With God's grace, mercy and some luck I will pass tomorrow and all will be fine but if not, I have to stick to plan B, like it or not.

I'm writing this to offer you this final bit of insight. DO NOT PUT OFF YOUR DREAMS...because one day it might be too late to make them happen. Aging is a funny thing. You don't feel the added years but the mirror shows they are there. One day you are 30 and raising kids and the next day you are 55 with grandchildren. It happens so quickly...you will see. Good luck to you all. May you all become the nurses you seek to be. Thank you for putting up with me (my rantings) the past few months. Now go be nurses!!!

The Lord be with you as you take this exam tomorrow..I truly admire your determination and strength.Whatever happens tom.just remember that this is only the beggining of greater things ahead. My prayers for your success..Godbless..

So how did it go??

I don't usually pop into this forum, but I do hope you report back!

Remember, there are tons of people half your age who have trouble with the NCLEX, too.

Dbrenda1510, I admire your tenacity for pursuing this license. I believe you can ace the exam this time. Think positive thoughts and stay strong! I wish you the best of luck!

I graduated in May, and one of my closest friends in the nursing program was 60 when we graduated! And she passed NCLEX this summer, just a week after I did! Positive vibes to you, and may your dream come true, too!!!!

I'm an oldster who is starting nursing school this September. I hope I have at least one classmate like you! My biggest fear about nursing school is that I will be shunned... and "nobody will play with me."

:(

dbrenda1510, I second your advice. Don't delay anything. If you are fortunate enough to have dreams, follow them. But if you have delayed, don't assume it's too late. Time will continue to fly by regardless; may as well use it to travel in the direction of your goals. The journey is worthwhile no matter what the ultimate outcome turns out to be.

That said, dbrenda, I cheering for you on that NCLEX and believing in your positive future.

SeattleJess, don't fear school. If you don't know something, ask. You'd be surprised that people are more than willing to help out a classmate. With that being said, it is more difficult for older people to integrate with a group of younger people, but it's not impossible. There are some people who are more acceptance than others and will "play" with you. Even in my nursing program, there were some people who were older and were part of the nursing group. I think as long as you try to befriend other students and try to get involved, you won't have much trouble fitting in :)

I wish you the best of luck in your nursing education!

Bottom line, though, you're there to get an education, not make friends. To me, one of the best gifts of getting older has been that I don't give two figs whether the popular kids like me or what they think of me anymore. I have friends already, and while open to making more, I don't need more. I also get all the ego support I need from the man who worships the ground I walk on and the five amazing young people who constantly mess up my house, make it loud, and let me know every day how irreplaceable I am.

I hope to start my LPN program in January, and while I do hope to meet some kindred souls, whether I do or not is peripheral to my mission in being there.

I bet your nursing class will become your second family! That's what happened to us in nursing school! I was not one of the youngsters either (I just turned 39), but our entire class became very close during thous two years and we still all communicate and get together when we can. I wish nothing but the best for you!!! :-)
