What to do this summer...

I posted about a month ago about camp nursing and decided to go for it!

I did some research and interviewed with a camp in Pennsylvania and they hired me for a 4 week session over the summer! As part of my payment, my 3 kids get to attend the camp also!

We are so excited! I imagine the work itself will be pretty similar to school nursing. They have 4 nurses to do rotating shifts and every 4th night on call.

My kids are practically drooling over all the activities and we will stop in New York City for a few days after camp is over (We gotta plan a meet up Farawyn!!)

That would be so fun! Living in south Texas where it is too hot to go outside during the summer, I would love to be somewhere a little cooler. Camp nursing sounds great, but I have a teenager who runs cross country, and they practice at 6:30 am, 5 days a week, year round. So, this mama is stuck being a taxi driver all summer. I'll have to live vicariously through you.

How fun! I always wanted to do that when my girls were younger. I have done a few days here and there for Girl Scout summer camp filling in for a friend but nothing for a long period of time.

I just committed to a 10 day medical mission trip to Zambia - I have never done that type of nursing, so am excited about it. For fun my husband and I are taking a week in Yosemite to hike/backpack ~60 miles of the John Muir trail. One of my bucket list items is to actually hike the entire trail but my husband can't take off from work for 3 weeks in the summer so I am stuck with doing it in sections for now. This will be our first extended backpacking trip alone together without a guide or experienced people with us so it should be interesting.

I would love to hike the John Muir trail too! We have the Superior Hiking Trail in northern Minnesota that I'd like to do also. My 8 year old wants her and I to hike the Appalachian Trail together after she finishes high school. :)

I'm working my theater camp tech job this summer and my husband and I planned a trip to Disney World! We have no kids and we have been saving to purchase the deluxe dining package so we can eat ourselves through Disney...

I am probably going to work some summer school - the moolah's too good to refuse - then the summer is mine to slack off. Going away with friends in August - big old beach house!!

Can't you make him run to practice as part of his training?? :roflmao:

I LOVE residential camp nursing! I'm in PA during the year and have been going to the lake's region in Maine to work at a 7.5week summer camp. The kids have no electricity, we all live in cabins. It's absolutely AMAZING. This will be my 3rd full summer but 5th summer going. (I've helped for a week the last 2 summers while opting to work an extended school year program here). I got married last summer, so this may be my last "go-live-somewhere-for-2-months" summer, but it's the camp's 100th year anniversary and I don't want to miss all the special events! Hoping our first kid is a boy when we decide to have kids so that I can justify going up there to work in exchange for tuition, since that is $$$$ I can't justify spending otherwise!

Summer camp sounds like so much fun, but with 3 kids and all their other activities, and a husband that works long hours in the summer, I could never get away that long. So, I'll probably just pick up a few shifts at Home Health or Nursing Home. We go camping a few times and take a few day/weekend trips throughout the summer for fun.

I totally agree with this. This winter has been ridiculously warm. I hate it.
