Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

After telling somebody that I was excited to be getting my lpn school uniform, I was told that LPN meant Little Pretend Nurse. :( this made me sad, I have worked Very hard to get where I am, I have taken ALL of my prerequisites for the RN program as well but I have chosen this path. Didn't make for a great day

I'm glad to see that you are feeling better. You will meet more people along the way who will say that you are "just an lpn" but keep in mind that most of them will have no clue about our role in healthcare so their opinion is based on ignorance. Congratulations on getting into LPN school! :)

Don't let this person ruin your day. Who knows, you may decide one day to become a PA, a RN a NP or anything else for that matter. Our titles do not define us.

Don't let anyone discourage you. I have been an LPN for 28 years and still enjoy my job. I have no desire to become a RN and at present I am working in and ICU/CCU and the RN's come and ask me questions because I have been here longer than any of them. The doctors respect me and listen when I call them concerning their patients. Keep your head up and don't be ashamed of being and LPN instead of an RN.

MY firstreaction was step on the slug and go right on your way.

But two previous posters said it better....."excuse me but did I do something to offend you?"

and

"remember both RN and LPN end in NURSE."

Congratulations and if you are like me you'll try on those uniforms and look in every mirror in the house.

I've still got my ADN and BSN uniforms-though I now couldn't squeeze into either. They mean you are on the fast track to being a NURSE.....all caps there intentional.

Everyone here has given you very wise advice. I have been an LPN for 7 years and Nursing School was no piece of cake, let me tell you. I work side by side with RN's every day and we do the EXACT same job. There is absolutely no difference in our job descriptions and we work well together and we all help one another. And actually the RN's go to the one LPN for advice and instruction because she knows more about the LTC facility where we work. So, don't let this one prejudicial idiot bring you down. Go forward and make your mark on the face of nursing and don't give jerks like that another thought. LPN's ARE real nurses and we are wonderful, compassionate nurses.

I think people who say stuff like that"little pretend nurse" comment need to hear themselves belittle someone else so they feel more adequate in what they are doing. Someone must be making him feel like a PRETEND DOCTOR. LPn's have a huge role in healthcare, although i am going to school to pursue my RN i look up to all Nurses LPN,Rn,CRNA,FNP,CNM id be very proud to be in the same class af any of them

I was an LPN before becoming an RN and let me tell you that I would have never made through school OR work if I hadn't. The knowledge and experience I acquired was a HUGE advantage for me, and has better prepared me for the role I'm in now. I was often referred to as an L Peon, but I proved my skills over and over and gained the respect of others. You will too. It takes a lot of courage, discipline, caring, and determination to go into this field - don't let anyone let you feel less. Remember, no one can make you feel inferior without your permission. ;)

i am sorry some one said that to you. I am a R.N student and i have worked in clinicals with L.P.N.'s and they were really good, i have a couple of friends who are also LPN'S and they are awesome at their jobs, so don't let someone's stupid comment bring you down,, I am very sure that you worked hard to get where your at, sometimes we just have to look over people's stupidity , when they say things like that..

Had a doc say this to me once. I remember thinking "would he like it if i said MD stand for moronic ****head"

The next time he said it, i said my thought outloud, and reminded him that the Commonwealth of Virginia states that LPN is an abbreviated for licensed practical nurse. His reply "I never looked at it that way, i'm sorry."

There are some very dense people out there. I have been an LPN for over 15 years, and have heard some idiot refer to us as "Licensed Practical Nuts".
