:( Sad - LPN (little pretend nurse comment)

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Published

After telling somebody that I was excited to be getting my lpn school uniform, I was told that LPN meant Little Pretend Nurse. :( this made me sad, I have worked Very hard to get where I am, I have taken ALL of my prerequisites for the RN program as well but I have chosen this path. Didn't make for a great day

Okay, a PA is a Physician's Assistant...the same comment can go right back to him...why couldn't he go on to be a Physician...considering how he made that remark shows how much he is insecure and putting someone else down is his way of bringing himself up (in his eyes only, of course).

I agree with Cardio. I am a LPN currently in the RN program, and I definately have an advantage that the "off the street" students don't. I am very glad that I did my LPN first, and somedays I think it was harder,( but I know the worst is yet to come hehe.) So you keep your head up, and don't let people bring you down! People like that are generally miserable with their own lives and want everyone else to be also.

Specializes in Emergency, Case Management, Informatics.

I think this is just a case of a person who knows they're in a dead-end job. Physician Assistants are stuck where they are. That person will either have to go through medical school or become a nurse to go anywhere.

Did you let them know that a Physician Assistant is a Little Pretend Physician? :p

Specializes in Almost everywhere.

That person is sooooo naughty!:angryfire I have been a LPN for like ever and wouldn't let anyone stand in the way of that. Some of the best RNs I have worked with were LPNs first and some of the best PAs I have ever seen were nurses first. The best PA I know was a LPN, then RN then PA!

Hang in there! You ARE doing the right thing!!!!

Just tell them that PA means "Physician...almost"

Specializes in 5 yrs OR, ASU Pre-Op 2 yr. ER.

And in the process of taking that step down to his level, it also lets him know that what he said got to you.

Congrats on getting into a program!

Was this person a nurse? Have they went through LPN school? Don't let someone ruin your good day. You have every reason to be excited and proud. LPN's school is very hard work. Ignore them. Be proud. :nurse:

ignorant.. thats all I could say...

:angryfiredont let that person get you down. you have made a good choice in a career. being a lpn/lvn is a challenge but is very rewarding. good luck in your schooling and your career. way to go

there will always be someone who enjoys putting someone else down...once an aids was taking a pts b/p when the doc and a new rn walked in...the doctor said to the nurse 'why don't you just retake that so i can write it down...the nurse strutted around all day and REPEATED the incidence over and over again...two people with an inflated ego and a cna who had been through roughly the same deal enough that she just shrugged it off

these people show up all the time...ignore them

Specializes in OB (with a history of cardiac).

Oh poopy on him! He probably would have said something just as snide if you said you were going to be a RN too. I told my otolaryngoloist when I was 18 I was all set to go to nursing school for my RN and he scoffed "why not just go for your MD?! It's better money, and you're doing less work!"

And I, in my adolecent stupidity beleived him, dropped from the program and went to a really spendy college, planning to get my BS in Biology and go to Med school. HAH! I got through all the prereqs up till Physics and Calc. and realized there's such a thing as "Nurse Practioner"! By that time, by the time I realized all this, the big nursing boom thing hit and there were waiting lists for 2 or 3 years to get in!

Nope... he's feeling low for not going to school to get HIS MD! That's why he has to take you down. He had better remember that it's the LPN's who help take care of his dirty work at the clinics, so he'd better watch who he's cutting down!

My mother taught LPNs for 33 years. In many ways it is harder to complete an LPN than an RN due to the concentrated nature of LPN programs. I think you are a great person and don't let the jerk get you down!
