Is it true LPN's are being phased out?
I have been a LPN well over 30+ years and that rumor has been circulating way before my time!! In New York State, LPN's work in all areas and specialities .... good luck and go for it!!

Lpn's
Why does there always have to be a debate between RN's and LPN's. Everyone of us, elected to attend the school that we did, whether it be LPN (ie: 1 Year Program - 18 Month Program or the 2 Yr Program) or the RN (ie: ADN - 3 Yr Hospital Diploma Proram or the BSN Program). We all know that LPN and RN programs have different criteria and requirements. The main point here is that we function as team members, for the good of the patients. Helping and teaching one and other, no matter what initials we carry. I have shown and taught many RN's technical skills that they did not have, and in turn they have also shared and taught me skills and theories I did not have. Being a member of a team is very rewarding, let us all be team members.

taking ACLS while in nursing school
I am an LPN and I took the ACLS Course. I prepared myself by reviewing the course book and learning word associations. I took a review class for EKG Interpetation and that helped as well. For me the written exam was not as difficult as others would have you belieive. At the hospital where I took the class (2 days) the instructors where very positive and helpful. Good Luck

Nursing School
I spent many years in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman, and attended many advanced schools while in my 16 years of active duty and 6 years of reserve time while in college. My college had nothing to do with nursing. At the age of 48, I wanted to do something I always wanted to do, and that was being a Nurse. I am now a LPN. Now I am 54, and guess what? I have the desire to go further, so I am undertaking the self study modules through Excelsior College. Good Luck to you - Go For It!!
