Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

After telling somebody that I was excited to be getting my lpn school uniform, I was told that LPN meant Little Pretend Nurse. :( this made me sad, I have worked Very hard to get where I am, I have taken ALL of my prerequisites for the RN program as well but I have chosen this path. Didn't make for a great day

What bunk! :angryfire

I was an LPN for a little over 17 years before I got my RN. I believe you get useful experience, and you can do advanced placement in most programs. Don't let the PA get you down; s/he is just an MD wanna be! :lol2: ;) :lol2:

This person was a PA. I am over it now but it sure made for a cloud! Thanks for your encouragement. Career decisions are hard to make. My husband and I decided that this was the best one for now because of how the cost of living is around here. I live in maryland and there has been a huge house boom and everything is just going up like crazy. We want to be able to sustain our lives here and for our 2 year old little girl. As well as I don't want to be in school forever when she is little

Tell him PA is a Physician As*kisser.

Specializes in Psych, Med/Surg, LTC.

Maybe someday he/she will be sick and have an LPN as a nurse, and realize that LPN's are real nurses.

Specializes in icu.

Sorry that happened to you! I will be graduating in May with my ADN. I work with several LPN's and I have a huge amount of respect for all of them. Hold your head high and be proud of who you are and what you do!!!!!

Fear not...

I know alot of PAs,simply tell them that your title ends in nurse, and theirs ends in assistant...

That was simply uncool

That is a terrible thing for anyone to say! In these types of situations, people tend to talk bad about others in attempt to make themselves feel better about some inadequacies in their own miserable lives. Ignore rude people and their rude comments or next time someone says something so uncalled for, return with "excuse me, did I do something/say something that offended you". Putting it back in their court and making them think about it usually stops the undesired behavior.

Be proud of yourself and your accomplishments :)

It's fun, for a few seconds, to respond to a hurtful comment with a zinger of your own, but it drops you down to that same thoughtless level.

Taking the high road usually gets the point across without demeaning yourself.

Just a reminder to everyone--watch your language, please. Don't want to close a thread that's meant to encourage someone.

People with small minds usually put others down to lift themselves up...sounds like a personal problem to me.

I have been an LPN for over 20 years,,,so I must have enjoyed my job-and I am very good at what I do!

I come from a family full of nurses, and they never learned to eat their young,,,or shoot their wounded, thank goodness!

My dad always told us that we would always have a job if we wanted one.

I have found it to be very true, and I have never been destitute...btw, my husband says it stands for Lovely, Patient, Nurturing.

My therapist would disagree ;) Years ago, I was having a very difficult time with a coworker and this was the exact advice I was given. It is not meant to be hurtful or condesending. Rather, a question to someone. If it turns out that the other person was offened by something I had said/done, it encouraged an open discussion. People are too quick just to shut down and not talk when someone hurts their feelings.

Actually encouraging this type of communication is very healthy. It avoids having coflicts between anyone. At the very least, if the person does not realize that their comments are having a negative effect on another person, they might think about what they are saying before they speak.

Specializes in LTC, Acute Care.

Based on that PA's ill mannered and immature comment, it's obvious that having a degree does not automatically mean that the degree holder is intelligent. Educated, yes; intelligent, no. This is the kind of person that has to put someone else down in order to exalt himself. I wouldn't worry about the comment; just go to school and be the best possible nurse that you can be.

Specializes in Hospice, Med/Surg, ICU, ER.
What a nasty person.

Does he know that PA stands for Pretentious Asshat?

:lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

Ever hear the term .. "educated fool"? There are people in this world that only feel better when they're able to put someone else down. Sounds as if that was what the PA in question did when he made the comment to you.

Just remember, no one can ever take your hard work and caring away from you.. NO ONE. Anyone in healthcare that knows beans about anything will admit that without the LPN's, RN's, and CNA's there would be nothing done. No bedside care, no hands on care. I dare say it's been a while since this PA worked the floor.. he or she might need to try it again for a week.

Keep the faith.. and blessings
