  1. I feel that nursing is a calling for me, I''m sure not in it for the money. The pay is ok, but I know there are jobs that pay more and you don't have to put up with a lot of things that nurses do. I really enjoy helping people and meeting new people. Both of these you can do in nursing. You just have to learn not to let it upset you if someone yells at you. Most of the time it is not even you they are upset with, you just happen to be the one that was there when they needed to let it out.
  2. I work in an ICU/CCU in GA and my base pay is $19.88 plus we get shift and weekend diff. My base pay includes a $2.00 diff for working a specialty unit. Not all hospitals in GA hire LPN's and most do not let them work in their units. I was making the same thing with an agency before coming to this hospital. I am also full time and have benefits.
  3. This is one thing that really upsets me:angryfire . I work 7p-7a and I usually arrive 10-15 minutes early to make sure I have everything ready to start working as soon as I get my patients and receive report. The thing is, most of the time my charge nurse is late. Everyone has been told that they are to arrive on time so the previous shift can give report and leave on time. When I start my shift late I feel like I am behind all night.
  4. I work at a hospital where the meds, accuchecks, and most of our supplies are barcoded. This works out good most of the time, except when you have something that won't scan. When this happens it can be a real pain.
  5. We do all our charting on the computer. I didn't think I would like it at first, but now it would be hard to go back to paper charting.
  6. When I was in my early teenage years I stayed with my grandparents most of the time. Both of them were in bad health. My grandfather had a stroke and would not let anyone help him except me. He would only take his meds and eat if I told him to. It was his wish that I would become a nurse when I got old enough. I tried other things, but kept being led back to nursing. I have now been a nurse for 28 years and can't think of anything else I would like to do.

Hello, Welcome to allnurses. If this is what you really want to do, don't give up if you don't get accepted right away.
  8. I am an LPN and work at Emory Eastside Medical Center in Snellville, GA. They are hiring LPN's to work here. Check out their job postings at http://www.emoryeastside.com
  9. Emory Eastside Medical Center in Snellville, GA has a NICU.
  10. I have 10 years ICU experience and have taken and passed all of the same test the RN's have to take in order to work here. I was the first nurse in our facility to complete the ECCO class required here to work in either ICU or PCU. I take all patients except the one's with a swan ganz catheter. They prefer that the RN's take these patients. We are also not allowed to hang blood in my facility. We can monitor it, but can't spike the bag. I do agree that all LPN's can't work in the units but if they have proven themselves capable then I don't see a problem.
  11. Don't let anyone discourage you. I have been an LPN for 28 years and still enjoy my job. I have no desire to become a RN and at present I am working in and ICU/CCU and the RN's come and ask me questions because I have been here longer than any of them. The doctors respect me and listen when I call them concerning their patients. Keep your head up and don't be ashamed of being and LPN instead of an RN.
  12. :balloons: congratulations.
