I am shocked at how many nurses and medical professionals are still claiming that wearing a cloth mask is saving lives. The protection of a cloth mask is equivalent to a chain link fence keeping a fly out. It might do some protection if everyone were wearing face shields. But honestly it’s the increased awareness of infection that is reducing numbers.

To get you thinking- a sneeze droplet is much much larger than a COVID particle. My allergies have been horrible and when I sneeze it goes right though the mask. Onto my shield if I’m wearing one. So how is that mask alone doing protection? Nurses have gotten COVID by patients who weren’t COVID positive at time of admission for COVID even from wearing the precious mask at all times.

It’s close proximity of active symptoms spreading it. and our President was infected by someone on AF1. It was in his home. Why would he wear a mask in his home? Do you all wear masks at home? Show a little respect. In other countries such talk would have you imprisoned or getting the death penalty.

Are you even a nurse?  No one has even implied that a double layer cloth mask is 100% effective.  You need to do some research of the recent literature.  We don't wear masks so that we can sneeze at people safely:)  You still have to do maneuvers to keep that sneeze away from others.  We have NO IDEA where the president got infected.  He was also in a helicopter, rallies, party in the rose garden, etc.  I wonder if there is any relationship between not wanting to use a condom (according to Stormy Daniels) and not wanting to mask up?

Respect for what? For not wearing a mask when encountering those who may/may not be infected? Relying on the people around you being tested vigilently (not an opportunity afforded to us common people) is foolhardy and the fool found out.

I don't know if you are a health professional. Your bio line does not reveal and your antivaccinations stance, convinces me otherwise.

You included me in your statement as needing "remedial education" for pointing out the hypocrisy of the mega-testing regime surrounding a man who has hampered, sabotaged, and discouraged testing. I wasn't making a clinical statement about the efficacy of testing, and it has nothing to do with mask usage. I respectfully decline your offer. Depending on how you interpret it, it could be considered rather condescending...

I didn't interpret that reference as critical of your remark.  Rather, I interpreted it as a nod to your word usage...regarding relying on a testing bubble. (Was that the language?)

Um, okay. Don't know why a part of a remark of mine was clipped and quoted, then...

I think it’s part of a separate thought. “One can wish for” the bubble you describe. And the poster who sneezes through masks needs remedial education.

He should have practiced an abundance of caution and put a mask on his high risk face when he was in public and distanced himself as experts had advised him. Now he'll get care that most of us cannot access.

So much for the party of personal responsibility.

I am sorry Jedrnurse for a poor presentation of my thoughts and intent. Yes I in no way was suggesting you needed any remediation. Rather I liked  the way you stated the 'testing bubble' some elite are lucky to be a part of. But as we found out yesterday there is no guarantee of protection, just some strategies to minimize direct virus transfer that you have to comply with. Apologies again.

While you're correct that the COVID virus is much smaller than typical respiratory droplets, it only remains viable and able to infect others when it transmits to others via a droplet.  Cloth, surgical, and other types of non-respirator level masks are well established to be effective at reducing the transmission of these droplets.

I'm not sure where you're getting that "our President was infected on AF1". The typical incubation period for Covid is about 5 days.  5 days prior the onset of symptoms was the 26th, where he attended an event where a large number of people in attendance have since tested positive.
