President Trump and the First Lady Test COVID Positive

Updated:   Published

The News earlier tonight shared that Hope Hicks became ill Wednesday night, and tested today and COVID-19 positive --per President Trump's confirmed tweet tonight. A few hours later, he confirmed the First Lady and he tested positive and are now  in quarantine.

Sorry Tweety, but at no point did I say or imply that your troops are incompetent. I did say that they are not seen as professional as other troops because for one thing they "don't play nicely with others."

I had no intention of starting a discussion on this and stated that I realise that it was off topic but felt it required to be said.

For clarity, I will not respond to any other posts about this unless it is on the topic. And please, please, please can no-one state anything about "speaking German."

Rather passive aggressive to post off topic and say you won't respond to off topic posts.  LOL

Anyway, I do respect you and appreciate you.  I think we're misunderstanding each other but will let it drop so we can stay on topic.

Sorry about that. I assure you, it’s something I’ve only started to do very recently.

No apology necessary ? Another poster started to use the strange acronym and I guess it just caught on.

I refer to the Secret Service as the USSS if I don’t write their complete name. Since the SS is traditionally used for an entirely different organization and the connotation is extremely negative, I felt the use of it an insult to the Secret Service which I hold in high regard professionally speaking. I also found the use in connection with a law enforcement organization troubling because of the increasingly anti-democratic and authoritarian winds blowing and the fact that right wing extremists are becoming increasingly emboldened. In my opinion, they pose a serious threat to democratic values and the stability of your country.

Funny how just a couple of simple letters can totally change the course of a conversation, isn't it? Somebody referred to the Secret Service as the "SS" and opened a big old can of worms!

Unfortunately for that poster they failed to realize in the moment how negative a connotation that particular acronym has around not just the US but the entire planet!

Maybe not a failure to recognize.

Trump is a dangerous authoritarian with power to command armed forces to do bad things. Trump has bad judgement.  Trump behaves in irresponsible ways and sometimes cruel ways.  The implications are obvious.

And dangerous.

Which is pretty much why I decided to go with the flow and use the acronym, knowing that it had connotations far beyond the current discussion.

petty of me. And I knew it was petty even as I used that shorthand. I’ll be more grown up from now on. I (almost) promise ?

Actually, he Mr. Bailey isn't the head of the Secret Service.  From the first paragraph of the article you linked to:

True. Thanks for the correction. He's the head of the Security Office, which controls access to the WH and Trump and coordinates with Secret Service, among other numerous Security agencies, including Homeland Security. Unfortunately, none of them have been able to control COVID's access to the WH/Trump.

Very interesting statement. It’s like he wants to switch sides and agree with all of Biden’s proposed approaches to the virus, but he can’t bring himself to blatantly contradict the candidate that he has spent the last 4 years sucking up to and that he knows full well will attack him at the slightest hint of disagreement. So he tries to blame both sides: one side for being totally wrong about the seriousness of the virus and about dismissing the CDC guidelines, and he tries to blame the other side for shut-down actions they haven’t even been trying to take since the early days of the pandemic.

Basically, his own experience opened his eyes to what millions of Americans have been going through, which is good. But he’s not courageous or honest enough to really look at the policies and political games (Trumps and Christie's own) that have actually caused the need for some of these ridiculously extended shut downs.

Had Christie and his cohorts been honest with the public, had listened to the medical professionals, epidemiologists and scientists instead of to their party platform and sycophants, and had followed and promoted the guidelines as they developed, wed barely even HAVE a shut down at this point.

So, short version: he’s still a hypocrite. He’s a humbled hypocrite, but a hypocrite all the same.

The First Lady will not be traveling to the debate "out of an abundance of caution". She apparently still has a cough.
