UTA BSN SPRING 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone, so i decided to go ahead and open up a forum for the 2018 spring start date. I know it might be early but hey everyone including me will have questions and become quite worried on getting in.

Great I am so glad you posted. I was thinking about posting one also. So I know the question on everyones mind is what gpa's are you guys applying with. I will start......I am applying for both accelerated online and on campus. My overall gpa is 3.6 and my science gpa is 4.0. I don't have any considerations and I am a transfer student from TCC. I am taking Chemistry and Medical Terminology at UTA during Summer I and for Fall I am taking Patho, Pharm and Intro to Nursing. I know it's not recommended to take both Patho and Pharm at the same time, but I have also heard it is doable. I am prepared to work hard. This application process is so stressful. It will be nice to have this forum to stress out together :)

Your stats look pretty good. Im only applying to the online. My overral gpa is 3.4 but my science gpa is 3.5. I dont have any considerations either. And for fall im taking all three of those classes as well. Im just upset that we wont here anything until October which is so long. Oh yeah here are my hesi stats as well.

Are you taking the Fall classes online or on campus

the fall classes will still be online. Im in Houston so thats why I'm only doing online.

Okay that makes sense. Are you applying for online only or both?

I'm only applying for online

Hey everyone! I am applying for the Spring 2018 AO BSN program! The deadline is fast approaching...:nailbiting: I am so nervous about getting in because I am not partnered. I do have a previous degree from UTA so I am hoping that it helps my chances!

Stats:

Previous degree

GPA:3.7

Science:4.0

Not partnered

I took the HESI A2 test today on campus. I figured I would post a couple of tips for last minute test takers such as myself:

Math:Make sure that you study fractions, fractions and oh yeah, fractions. It was the majority of the questions on my test. Also ratios came up a lot too, oddly. Lastly, unit conversion was a big component of the test as well...i.e. Liters to OZ, Grams to ML, etc. I suggest brushing up on those three things and you should be fine.

Grammar: The questions were mainly as such:

Bill and Sally went to the store to by a loaf of bread.

Which word or part of the sentence is incorrect?

A. by

B. Bill and Sally

C.bread

This part was pretty straight forward. My strategy was to read the sentences quietly to myself (because omg that room was soooo quiet I felt loud breathing in there lol) and then figure out what was wrong.

Vocab: This was pretty straight forward as well. The questions were mainly nursing related questions such as:

The nurse walked into the room and gave the patient a comprehensive examination.

In this sentence, what does the word comprehensive mean?

A. Thorough

B. blah

C.blah

D.blah

Reading comprehension: Read the paragraphs and answer questions about them. Mainly questions asking about what the author is implying or summarize the paragraph or what does "this word" mean in "this paragraph."

I can tell you all this. I didn't study. I worked overnight and then went straight into the test dead tired and I made the following grades:

Math-96

I am telling you this because people stress about this test for no reason. If you can pass Chem, you can take this test with your eyes closed. It was a piece of cake and to get into the nursing program you have to make a minimum of a 75%. Each section has 55 questions. It took me roughly 2.5 hours to finish the test. Plan on spending the majority of time reading those paragraphs...I would suggest taking that section first because you will feel like you really just want to get out of that room by the time you finish with that section.

Good luck ya'll! Feel free to contact me with any questions!

I'll most likely apply again...this will be my 3rd attempt. I've had all my pre-requisites complete for over a year now, so just applying where I can now. I've been wait listed the two previous times. Also been denied at a few other schools. My overall GPA is what's hurting me. I have B's in several of my classes such as Psych & Sociology from 20+ years ago. My stats are:

Overall GPA: 3.4

Sciences GPA: 3.75

Hesi:

Math: 98

Vocab: 98

Reading: 96

Grammer: 92

I have 2 considerations.

It doesn't look good. Houston only has 20 spots, I had 2 considerations (previous Bachelor's and credits at UTA) and now I have completed Patho, Pharm, and Intro and was waitlisted. Houston is very hard if you are not partnered. My overall was a 3.869, and my science was a 3.75... Also my HESI was 94 average for UTA (they don't consider the score they only care that you met their minimum mark)

Brandon, I think you should seriously consider TWU. I know you ruled it out in the past, but I feel with your stats and their clear cut admissions process, you are a shoe in.

I am planning to apply this next time. The issue with the previous admission period was my Nutrition was not complete until March and the deadline was Feb. 1. TWU was the only school that had this requirement, so I was not prepared for it.
