Nurse's Week Gifts from Employers

Published

With nurse's week being kicked off today, I'm seeing posts on social media about things people are getting from employers. Everything from a tote bag with the employer's logo to a bottle of wine (can I work there?!). I'm not working til Tuesday so I won't know what, if anything, my employer has going. I know this topic has been done in the past and some people have mixed feelings-- ie they'd rather their employer spend the money on better staffing. But it could be a fun topic too, so what'd ya get?

I'm a traveler that rides a motorcycle... My recruiter sent me a copy of the Harley Davidson North American Atlas!!! Love him, he thinks about and cares about his travelers!

I got the gift that keeps giving. The gift of the job....

A group of LPN's who are still licensed as LPN's, whose jobs have been reconstructed as techs--in every "Yeah you are awesome" thing not one mention of any of them, and excluded from any "nurse appreciation week" activity/gift....but they thought too quickly, as the "real nurses" could have "used the LPN's while they went to a luncheon" Awesome sauce.

Thus company I work doesn't acknowledge nursing week. So since the company one of the nurse's suggested we have a pot luck for ourselves since no one appreciate us. My other company the doctors came together and asked DON to ask us what would like as far as lunch cater (not a cheap place) and gift cards

Special meals each day for each shift, t-shirts, bags, personalized thank you card, $$.

Our management has come to each of us with an "ice cream truck" so we could choose a treat, and supplied lunch and breakfast for us each day this week. It's the best nurses week ever!

Administration cancelled the annual BBQ, stated it was now "healthcare week" and gave us a fairly hideous pen. In previous years there have been fleece vests, water bottles, BBQs for all shifts, lunch bags, etc. All the nurses are actually a bit stunned, especially since they didn't announce or acknowledge anything until yesterday. From the folks that have been around awhile, apparently our organization used to go all out. [emoji58][emoji17]

uh oh writing on the wall time, they are cutting costs and saving on expenses which may mean bad things further down the road. be aware!

the more I read about so many people having so many nice gifts it makes me realize my pen just isn't so much specialness as I thought. oh wait it wasn't special anyway lol but it does look a lot worse when compared with lunches, dinners, clothing, massages. still I got a pen right?

We had staff appreciation week last week. Had a fruit and yogurt one morning and cake Friday afternoon. I also got a couple cards made by students

Specializes in Med-surg, school nursing..

I'm not sure what the hospital did, guess I'll find out Saturday.

School nurse: I got a 12 pack of coke, jar of snickers, cookie sandwich, a chocolate chip cookie cake, 5 large posters and 180 hand-made cards from the kiddos. Best. Gift. EVER. Reading all of the notes made me smile.

Some of my favorites:

"You're a better nurse than our teacher."

"I like hearing your sweet voice, it makes me feel like I am at home."

"I'm glad you are here so I don't have to see you in the hospital."

The one from my little brother said "Sissy Your the best nurse ever! I love you!" Love that kid, and I'm convinced he will never learn my real name. And that's okay.

Specializes in ICU.

Yup. It was a "make your own corn bar" thing, with spices and mayo. I'm on a low carb diet, so didn't partake. I work night/weekends, so I miss out on all the other events during the week like breakfasts, lunches, etc.

The place where I am currently working is actually missing their regular nurse pretty badly and will probably do something nice for her next week. They've done nothing for me.

I work for a staffing agency; they haven't done anything for me either. :)

Most places that I have worked in the past have kinda combined hospital week with nurses week, and then had meals, snacks, other special little treats all week.
