With nurse's week being kicked off today, I'm seeing posts on social media about things people are getting from employers. Everything from a tote bag with the employer's logo to a bottle of wine (can I work there?!). I'm not working til Tuesday so I won't know what, if anything, my employer has going. I know this topic has been done in the past and some people have mixed feelings-- ie they'd rather their employer spend the money on better staffing. But it could be a fun topic too, so what'd ya get?
I'm not sure what the hospital did, guess I'll find out Saturday.School nurse: I got a 12 pack of coke, jar of snickers, cookie sandwich, a chocolate chip cookie cake, 5 large posters and 180 hand-made cards from the kiddos. Best. Gift. EVER. Reading all of the notes made me smile.
Some of my favorites:
"You're a better nurse than our teacher."
"I like hearing your sweet voice, it makes me feel like I am at home."
"I'm glad you are here so I don't have to see you in the hospital."
The one from my little brother said "Sissy Your the best nurse ever! I love you!" Love that kid, and I'm convinced he will never learn my real name. And that's okay.
Your kids are fabulous! I would keep that stuff forever and ever. I would plaster it all over a wall.
Yup. It was a "make your own corn bar" thing, with spices and mayo. I'm on a low carb diet, so didn't partake. I work night/weekends, so I miss out on all the other events during the week like breakfasts, lunches, etc.
Thanks for clarifying ! I was obsessing, wondering....why, why, why a cup of corn? I haven't heard of this before.
Imagine the conversation : Q. " Hey, what shall we do for Nurse's Week this year?" A. "I know, how about a corn bar ? "

I've got the posters up all over the room. My favorite is a giant heart with band-aid's all over it. They wrote little messages to me on the band-aids.
It's so cute I didn't even care that they wasted the band-aids that I supply them with. :)
For the first time in my 9 years of nursing, my employer (been here just shy of a year) gave us a certificate thanking nurses for keeping pts safe and a beach towel with our employer on it with our job title. Now everyone at the beach will know what I do and where I do it at! Yay! Oh, well. It was nice to be recognized finally, even if the surgical tech I work with griped that there's no surgical tech appreciation day. Le sigh.
We used to get a lot of stuff, bandage scissors, a covered glass box, gift cards, and a committee that gathered all kinds of donated stuff from the community. I missed out this week as I was off, but we basically got nada. I work at night and all the giveaways and such was only during the day
We celebrated nursing home week with various small treats and give always.Department heads were brow beaten into recognizing their staff however they saw fit (and paid for it-several were overheard complaining about it) I never saw ANY department heads or administration.Years ago the DON and administrator would host a gathering in our lobby(each shift)-coffee,iced teas, fresh baked cookies from our cafeteria. The shift supervisors and staff nurses were invited for a half an hour or so,the Don and admin would speak briefly and we would all just spend a few minutes relaxing. It was more and heartfelt sincere than anything since.
Well I have had different experiences. The best nurses week we had different food all week long where they also made sure our floor was covered so we could eat on peace. Ended the week with a cookout and steak on the grill. We got a nice nursing bag umbrella and tshi r that said I love nursing. Always think of this place during nurses week cause I am no longer working there lol. Some places truly show they care
