With nurse's week being kicked off today, I'm seeing posts on social media about things people are getting from employers. Everything from a tote bag with the employer's logo to a bottle of wine (can I work there?!). I'm not working til Tuesday so I won't know what, if anything, my employer has going. I know this topic has been done in the past and some people have mixed feelings-- ie they'd rather their employer spend the money on better staffing. But it could be a fun topic too, so what'd ya get?
I heard there were a few things for nurses. Some stuff in the cafeteria (nurses could submit their own music/art/poetry to be recognized). Also, free "vein screening". My unit, we got small tote bags (too small for lunches, but maybe 3 cans of soda?), filled with some handmade salt scrub (kinda cool) and tea bags. Better than last year (which was literally rubber band, paperclip, bandaid and other misc stuff found on the unit). I work nights, so nothing was 'available' for us. And instead of the normal "free lunch" we've had before, this year there were "unit based potlucks" (which was, of course, held during the day) so the night staff was left out.

We had a "Thank You Breakfast" that had the same food as what comes on the patient trays. There was also a "You Made a Difference" dinner, which not a single night shift staff member was invited to.
I had better Nurses Week experience working at 100 bed hospital in a severely poor area where we didn't even have a a budget for ice and hot packs than I did working for one of the largest health care systems in the tri-state area near NYC.
