With nurse's week being kicked off today, I'm seeing posts on social media about things people are getting from employers. Everything from a tote bag with the employer's logo to a bottle of wine (can I work there?!). I'm not working til Tuesday so I won't know what, if anything, my employer has going. I know this topic has been done in the past and some people have mixed feelings-- ie they'd rather their employer spend the money on better staffing. But it could be a fun topic too, so what'd ya get?
I work in skilled/LTC and we got a text from our DON. One of the local Hospice organizations we do business with brought us huge tubs of pretzels and a few families of the long term patients gave us cards, flower arrangements and snacks and candy. What a nice thing to know the families appreciate us!
The no gifts of appreciation sucks. There was a time we all got an extra check for a percentage of our annual income and a really nice dinner. They could at least give everyone a chance to pick whatever day they want to take off as a paid mental health day (scheduled of course). An extra paid day off would be loved by most nurses.
Our facility had a tea and cookies social, but I was swamped with patients so I didn't get to go. Our floor manager hand wrote cards to each of us with a personal message. She recognized personal accomplishments and traits of our personalities, so I know they weren't stock letters. She also ordered us very good quality pens recognizing our service to the ICU.
That was really nice. True appreciation.
We all got light blue t shirts with the facility logo, and on the back they say "nurses are angels in comfy shoes". We get to wear them as part of our uniforms. Last year we got stainless steel travel mugs (the big kind with a handle) with the logo, and a pack of Starbucks via packets. This year was awesome, they had free food, lots of games raffles and prizes, they even took an ad out on the electronic billboard in town thanking us! We got bought out by a nonprofit healthcare system, and how we get treated has changed greatly. I'm a midnighter and our kitchen staff stay late to cook us food on our staff appreciation days. We get cookouts and pasta dinners, they order us pizza frequently, and we have baked goodies and an ice cream bar in the break room every so often. My specific unit buys "team shirts" that we design every year, so this was nice that we got facility wide ones too.
edited to add- we got gift baskets on each unit from all our cohorts, hospice, dialysis, the local hospitals... Our admin team handles sending out our gift baskets. Some of the doctors said "happy nurses week" to us too, but they go to so many facilities it'd put them in bankruptcy to buy us all baskets! We did get some boxes of donuts and cookies from families too

Our "gift" was a little insulated lunch bag, a ear-muff/headband thing and....a pen.
But, someone from administration was here every evening to make sure night shift got in on the food and such. They area really very good to us here. We are a tiny hospital (20 beds) in a HUGE system. Locally we are taken care of, system-wide, not so much.
