With nurse's week being kicked off today, I'm seeing posts on social media about things people are getting from employers. Everything from a tote bag with the employer's logo to a bottle of wine (can I work there?!). I'm not working til Tuesday so I won't know what, if anything, my employer has going. I know this topic has been done in the past and some people have mixed feelings-- ie they'd rather their employer spend the money on better staffing. But it could be a fun topic too, so what'd ya get?
I'm on the Nurses Week Committee at my hospital. We had a Vegas themed celebration this year- blackjack, roulette, Elvis impersonator, photo booth, nacho bar, ice cream sundae bar, popcorn, door prizes, and the gift was a hospital logo tumbler.
Sounds amazing, right? Well, the hospital only gives us a couple hundred dollars and we have over 600 nurses. So... We have to raise money by selling shirts and asking docs for money and door prizes. 😕
It's a lot of work, but worth it for us nurses! 😊
Last year the administrator of the hospital and his assistant came through pulling a little red wagon full of candy. Problem was they were giving it out to everybody they encountered so by the time they got to the units most of it had gone to visitors, housekeeping, lab, respiratory, medical records, etc., so we got the dregs. Sometimes they do give cool back packs or lunch totes but they also give them to other departments so they won't feel left out.

One year from the hospital I worked at, we got a year of free CEs from an online company. I loved it and completed several modules. Only problem, the modules were full of errors and misspellings.
