Nurse's Week Gifts from Employers

Published

With nurse's week being kicked off today, I'm seeing posts on social media about things people are getting from employers. Everything from a tote bag with the employer's logo to a bottle of wine (can I work there?!). I'm not working til Tuesday so I won't know what, if anything, my employer has going. I know this topic has been done in the past and some people have mixed feelings-- ie they'd rather their employer spend the money on better staffing. But it could be a fun topic too, so what'd ya get?

Every year I am taken to a nice lunch. At other jobs we had lunches or a small gift.

The last Nurse Week gift I received was a cheap plastic pen that wouldn't last if I signed charts with it. Lol

They planned special "fun" Tshirt days for each day of nurses week. Like one day we got to wear superhero shirts and another day cartoon themed tops.

I dunno, doesnt make me feel like a celebrated professional. I'll just wear my scrubs. Fun for some, I suppose.

I'll admit the casual dress days kind of gross me out. It's not a privilege to have my own nice clothing coughed, bled, pooped, and peed on.

A company logo badge reel. The same ones all new employees get.

I keep answering this and unless I go into a paragraph or so worth of comment, it will not let me place the comment...so you get all this AIR/FLUFF so that I can say...

SWEET! NOT! :nurse::down:

I got an assignment. "Discuss what culture of safety means to you".

Oh. And one floor nurse sent all the other floor nurses an email saying how awesome we are.

So in other words, a big fat finger.

One of the worst! Worse than nothing, IMO!

One of our hospitalists personally delivered pizza and coffee to us over the weekend - and gave us a sincere thank you. A few long-term patients and their families brought us a wonderful selection of hand-made gifts and goodies - something for everyone.

Administration cancelled the annual BBQ, stated it was now "healthcare week" and gave us a fairly hideous pen. In previous years there have been fleece vests, water bottles, BBQs for all shifts, lunch bags, etc. All the nurses are actually a bit stunned, especially since they didn't announce or acknowledge anything until yesterday. From the folks that have been around awhile, apparently our organization used to go all out. [emoji58][emoji17]

I now have worked night shift for 2 years after 40 years of days. It is also a week for the hospital employees not just nurses. On night shift i finally got 2 pieces of cold pizza while we were having 2 deliveries. Everything is geared for day shift and you have to be working that day to get anything. If there is something at nights, the nurses are usually to busy to get to it , too long a line with all hospital employees or around the first 2 hours of a shift( when you are doing assessments). I do remember the days of great gifts though. Very much a lack of appreciation for night and/ or admin. doesn't want to come out in the middle of the night when we can also have time to do something quick. It is really great to get a meal from 7 to 8 pm only they are out of food before 730 pm. ( of course it is still from days .

Corn? Actual kernels of corn? What the what ?

A 10 min chair massage this past Friday. An ice-cream social. Maybe something else, but I am new at this job, not paying too much attention to this right now.

Our facility had a tea and cookies social, but I was swamped with patients so I didn't get to go. Our floor manager hand wrote cards to each of us with a personal message. She recognized personal accomplishments and traits of our personalities, so I know they weren't stock letters. She also ordered us very good quality pens recognizing our service to the ICU.
