Members are discussing different ideas and opinions related to Nurses Week celebrations. Some members express disdain for activities like group photos, videos, and scavenger hunts, while others suggest more practical gifts like gift cards or free meals. There is also a humorous exchange about the appropriateness of certain activities in healthcare settings and references to popular songs.
I am on the nurse week committee planning activities this year. We are planning a scavenger hunt, when you find the item you will post your find to our Facebook page. I am considering having them "find" people from support departments It, environmental, good service ect. But what other things could i have them find? Or do?
Poor OP, sorry, but Nurses' Week is a sore point with nurses. Unless you can give a decent bonus check or free meals the whole week delivered to units so you get everyone, don't bother.
This is what I was thinking.... food. Food at each shift that doesn't get gross when cold. Many times grocery stores will donate. I know it isn't quite as fun but meals are ALWAYS appreciated especially when you have time to eat them... and when each shift gets them!
Pony Rides? That was suggested on another thread. If they love scavenger hunts they would love pony rides too!Okay, serious answer:
Gift cards
GCerts for free hours of PTO
GCerts for free scrubs and gear...
That sort of thing.
PS - I don't think they can find things (especially people) around the hospital and post them to FB. That is a HIPAA violation, an OSHA/infection control nightmare. It's an act of moral turpitude which is reportable to the BON and the FBI, and it is a felony. To be safe from all that, I'd just hide the GCs in their mailboxes and/or slide them through the locker vents.
It's not a HIPAA violation to find people if they are employees only. Employees are not protected by HIPAA. (Scary huh?) I do agree though that it may be a safety issue to go into various areas where some may not be allowed. Great ideas for the hunt though, I must say!!

I was just having some fun with the various excuses given for things that can't happen in healthcare facilities.
You know, like applying lip gloss. Majory felony and duh, a whopper of an infection control risk.
A friend went for a routine check-up at a major area healthcare provider the other day and pulled out his phone after checking in thinking he would answer some work emails while waiting. Was kindly told that they ask patients not to use phones because it is a HIPAA violation. He said the "informative" nature of this incorrect tidbit was quite entertaining. He said, "no it actually isn't; you have been misinformed."
Don'tcha think it's just a tad goofy to plan an event where staff are running around snapping pictures of anything given all the general turmoil and hoopla related to staff use of phones in hospitals? Get written up for it unless it's for a special event planned by special people?
.....Its kind of like the pill they advertise on tv now that will allow long term opioid users to poop!!! Brilliant!!! ... Mediao girlfriends among them
For OIC, 'Opioid Induced Constipation', I know...WTH??? and also WTH this is what our children are watching??? It's not okay!
Neither is treating nurses like children.

We've never done a scavenger hunt for nurses week but have done one for our safety committee week. We had to "find" the fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, MSDS and other safety/environmental items. Some people seemed to really enjoy it but for the most part it was just another task. If you go forward with any kind of group contest though, I am not sure posting anything to facebook is wise unless you have express consent from upper management.
