My most important tip for a nursing student is....

What do you think is your most important tip for nursing students???

Make your priorities straight before committing to school.

1.Don't be a last minute person ( study ahead of time)

2. Ask for help earlier

3. Organize yourself that way you won't miss any assignments

4. Don't skip school..nursing school is not a joke you can get kicked out easily

5. Always use the CD's that come with your books because they usually have questions that can better prepare you for the test

6. If you like study groups, find good friends that actually want to study

7. Don't waste time complaining to friends how hard the classes are, instead, spend that time studying.

Help your fellow students. (And they will help you) It's not a competition, everybody ends up with the same prize (a RN). When you see a competitive person who freaks out about grades, tries to look super smart for the clinical instructor, and shows off in class, RUN AWAY. They are toxic. You won't be a nurse on the floor alone - you have to work with others. Work WELL with others.

Don't forget to take time out for yourself.

Keep up with your reading, don't depend on the lecture powerpoints to teach you everything. Actually read the chapters before lecture, the lecture makes a lot more sense after that.

Study every single day.

Get organized.

Accept that nursing school is a completely different ball game and your priorities WILL have to shift. Greatly. Purge yourself of guilt over this re: family/children/friends. It is temporary.

Get enough sleep. This goes back to time management and getting organized.

Don't wait until you are drowning and panicked to ask for help.

DO NOT PROCRASTINATE ON ANYTHING!!

If it seems pretty easy, you're missing something.

Make time for your family, friends, and most importantly yourself. You can't study every second, you'll drive yourself insane. A good support group is VERY important throughout nursing.

Get a Saunders NCLEX review book and use it to study for every exam. Get in the habit of doing at least 100 questions a week from the Saunders cd. Read the rationales for every question whether you got it right or wrong.

When you get into this habit and do it weekly, you'll be ready for the HESI/ATI exams and you won't be sweating studying for the board exam.

All of the scholary tips are great but I have to say the most important one is about taking time for YOURSELF!

I work 2 jobs AND go to school full-time and if I did not take time away from school (one day in which I did NOTHING related to school - unless I had an exam coming up) I would have lost it. It's important to remember that you need to be re-energized and if you don't do that..all power to do the other tips...will be gone!

Remember yourself in school! :)

Keep your eye on the prize.

It's a wonderful feeling when you get to call yourself an RN.

Good Luck, Guys. Remember, Nursing School is temporary.
