I like to see men in nursing......they're all in the OR or ED in my observation though - vast experience of a whopping two semesters of school.

Sorry, one man on a tele floor, he was a charge nurse, younger than most of the women on the floor, and seemed a bit of an ass (more so than other female charge nurses I've seen).

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

I'm a female who would very much like to see more men in nursing. I think that the profession would receive a boost of respect if more men entered our field.

Specializes in Urgent Care NP, Emergency Nursing, Camp Nursing.

I'm all for men in nursing too.

Lots of men in military nursing of all stripes, as well as in (physical) rehabilitation. Also, psych nursing is traditionally more accepting of men in nursing, so I've seen some male psych nurses as well.

As for increasing status, there's some sociological and role-based literature out there that says that may not be the case.

The only job in which gender is a relevant factor is gamete donation. Even prostitution is iffy.

I've spent my career around areas like the ER, ICU, and flight. Men seem to be pretty well represented in those areas, as well as in anesthesia. I do notice that when I visit one of our med-surg areas that they sometimes have the token dude, or maybe none at all, but due to my work area I guess I tend to not notice the disproportion to the same degree as that seen in the profession as a whole.

I think it is great! I currently have 4 men in my nursing class. You can tell all of them will be great nurses (one of them is even a pharmacist who decided to pursue his RN degree to be able to broaden his opportunities when he graduates)......
