Any recommendations for post-masters program in FNP in the state of Florida?
Try UCF UCF COLLEGE OF NURSING : Academics They are very flexible and will even allow you to start taking courses prior to program admission. They have masters, post masters, and DNP programs.

2015 DNP Requirement for APNs
The NP MSN is going to come back. The University of Central Florida, 2nd largest school in the nation, just returned the FNP and ANP MSN programs to their offerings. They still offer a DNP, but it is a different program. The MSN is no longer an "opt out" from the DNP. What does that tell you? DNP by 2015 is dead (but, I suspect, will remain alive as a rumor for a very long time...). I bet that many other schools will return to MSN programs. Why? Allowing students to opt out of the DNP at the master's level is killing degree completion rates. Since the DNP is NOT going to be required by 2015, few students are doing the whole program.

Trivial detail...rainbow stethoscope chespiece?
I like it. Not at all unprofessional.

What if I don't like it?
@TraumaRUs, I was wondering what areas/jobs you have seen that desire the MSN/MBA combo. I have just applied to a fall entry FNP program. This is a second career for me; I have my MBA from the past one. I'm planning to work clinically, but would not mind exploring options that take advantage of the MBA as well.

My age is showing, or 'No texting, please"
I'm sorry, but typos and grammar shortcuts will always bother me. I guess I'm just an old fudd too! :)

Questions about moving to FL
Ummmm, that insurance quote is a bit high for the East Central Coast area. I live less than 2 miles from the beach and my rate is $1000 per year for a house worth about $140,000. My house is a 4 bed/2 bath/2 car garage, 1600 SF living area, concrete block 1960's rancher - about mid-market for here. That $1000 rate is for private (not state pool) insurance from a good A rated company. To the OP - come on down! We need people to move here and buy up some of these extra inventory homes.

Not sure what to do...
Find someone in the type of position you would like to mentor you. If an opportunity comes up, that mentor can be you foot in the door. Good luck!

Am I too old to go back to school?
If you do not do this, what else will you be doing four years from now? I bet you'd be looking around and hating yourself for not going back to school. Four years is not a long time. Go for it!

Insights from dogs
One of our dogs does the same thing when my husband coughs. She totally freaks and comes over to me like she is scared/worried. She ignores everyone else when they cough. The other dog has no reaction. Both dogs adore my husband and neither one has any reason to be scared of a cough. Also, my husband is in generally good health. The source of the cough @ night is lisinopril - although she reacts to a simple throat clearing the same way. His blood pressure is well controlled and I in no way think she is indicating any problem with him. My guess is that she perceives him as the alpha and does not know how to interpret the noise - ie: is he upset about something. Oddly, the same dog that is scared of my husband's coughs is more reliable than the weather service for warnings about heavy lightning and tornadoes.

Pre-Nursing Job Decision: Package Handler or Patient Care Technician
No brainer - go for the hospital job. (Unless you have other/better healthcare experience on your resume)

Daytona State Spring 2010
NurseU, Nights are on the main campus in Daytona. My 1st semester schedule will be 2pm to 8:30pm MTW. I don't know what the rest of the semesters will be. GracieGrace, The teas test is not too bad - get a study guide and brush up on your weak areas. You can take the test multiple times, so don't stress if you are a bit low the first time. Good luck to you both!
