about mcc's HESI

Published

hi guys, just wondering if anybody can give some tips or advice for mcc's hesi entrance exam. also do you guys know how many questions there are in the whole test and/or each section? and do you think a 95 on the hesi and a great GPA is a shoe in already? any other info would bre great, thank you much!!:D

WOW!!! Gemberly, that is wonderful...Congratualtions on your scores.:yeah:..my only 100% was the vocab. Great for you!!!

It's easy - if you don't do well in it however, i'd seriously question your studying habits or something, because it's E to the Z

To those taking the HESI coming up, when I took it a couple years back, all you needed was the study guide, you didn't need to memorize medical terms because they won't help you. Basic math (and I mean BASIC), military time (add or subtract 12, something I learned in the service :) ).

You said you took the HESI a few years ago. The level of difficulty of the HESI has been increasing through the years to narrow the competition. I'm glad you found it easy, but please don't assume that just because one person found it difficult or didn't do well its suddenly because there is something wrong with their study habits.

The HESI is easy for an entrance test. How else do you explain applicants needing over a 90% on it to get in the program. If it was hard an average score (75%) would get you in the program. Besides any test for adults with adding and subtracting along with the most basic of grammar on it must be classified as "Easy". There are standards for any profession. If you can't add that's not good.

Well put John - to add, I understand that not everyone will have 95+ percent on it, however, if you did exceedingly poor I question your ability to calculate that IV drip of heparin your going to run on me, or your ability to understand chart data written in complex formats. My previous words offer encouragement by decreasing the anxiety they hold over taking their upcoming test, by making it sound easy (it is stuff you learned in middle school or earlier so yes - it is) it alleviates stress.

It has become increasingly difficult? From the people i've talked to it hasn't changed much - they haven't added a chemistry or anatomy section yet, and it's still add - subtract - divide - multiply, and tell me what the word 'exacerbate' means in a sentence.

I took the HESI today, and I got a 94.9%. with my gpa less than 4.0, i'm really wondering if by now this grade is going to cut it, because I keep hearing how much scoring has improved over the last year. Is anyone else who took the test for the '09 start date willing to put themselves out a little and volunteer their score? I can't stand waiting until April, and with the req's changing after this cycle....it's gettin' crazy. Anyone? I know it won't really indicate anything, but jeez I need something to at least pretend to indicate a predictor one way or the other...I can't go on till April with NOTHING!

I had a 96 and a 4.0. I think it is going to be hard to say how things are going to turn out, but your score sounds really great! Nice work!

They added spots this year, and from what I have noticed, the scores change each time based on those that apply. My class average was 85 grammar, 84 math, reading 80 and vocab was a 76. Maybe that helps a little.

Good luck!

Depends on how low your GPA is. Last year scores where not exceptionally high.

I got a 94.9 also. My GPA is 3.9. The average scores on my test date were mid 80s if that helps.

I had 4, yes 4 students not show up for their test in my class. If this happened in a lot of the other classes there may be less people to go up against. I just can't believe that someone would put out $55 dollars and then not show. Oh well only 995 more people to beat me out...lol.

How does the alternates work, you just have to wait until the last start dates to see if you are bumped up? For those who applied to both Baker and MCC, if you get into both which one will you choose?
