hi guys, just wondering if anybody can give some tips or advice for mcc's hesi entrance exam. also do you guys know how many questions there are in the whole test and/or each section? and do you think a 95 on the hesi and a great GPA is a shoe in already? any other info would bre great, thank you much!!
Hmmm....macomb never old me that. They said that for instance that a 4 credit hour class at baker transfers as a 2.93 hour class to macomb and that they would take it, but they never said that the GPA drops. They did say that if you did not do 12 credit hours in the semester before you apply that they take the total GPA from the last 2 semesters at Baker to figure out your GPA. Now this is going to end after Fall 09 application, Fall 10 is going to require a lot more pre-reqs be done and that they are going to use almost the same classes as Baker does in order to determine the total GPA.
They have a bunch of people taking easy classes for their last 12 to get A's and get into the program and that is not fair. I had to take A&P 2, Algebra, Micro, and Oral Comp at Baker the last 2 semesters and these are the classes that Macomb is going to use as my GPA, and I had to struggle to get A's in these hard classes and do well on the NET, and the next person does well on the NET but takes Art or PE for their GPA. This is why Macomb is changing because I bet they have people in the nursing program that may not deserved to be there.
My sister-in-law went to Macomb 20+ years ago and all they had to do to get into the program was to be the highest ranked on an entrance test. Then they do the pre-reqs. She was accepted in the program and did minimum grades in the science classes, which doesn't seem right because she was not forced to learn a lot just slide by.
I would check with the advisor again on the transfer GPA though to be sure.
I don't remember seeing that button on there. But there were not too many percentage questions. Is there anything I can help you on in the percentage department?I guess what I am asking is that since I transferred my transcripts from Baker to Macomb already, my gpa dropped from the Baker gpa to the macomb gpa. does what I am asking make sense??? I know the same 4.0 class at BaKER does not correlate to the same gpa at Macomb, but my goodness I didn't think it would be that much of a drop....
See that is where I am confused, because at Baker I have a 3.8 gpa but when I just looked at Mcc it says my gpa is only a 3.3 now with my transfers.....My last 12 credit hours at Baker were the same as you. A&P11, micro, patho, pharm and what ever else. Which I received a's in...so this is where I am confused.
I am going to talk to an advisor tomorrow to see what is going on. Or if there is something else to go into now. My gosh I don't want to have retake everything again at MCC to get the higher gpa...but if that is what it is going to take then I guess I will have to do it...
Let me know what they said, when I talked at macomb the advisor actually told me for my last 12 to just come their and take easy classes like art, she actually said that....lol. I hope the lower GPA is not right because that hurts us more. Where are you looking at this on the web, do you have a link?

Before transfers to after transfers to MCC my MCC gpa didn't change at all. If you transfer classes TO Baker, they don't use the grades to figure your gpa there either. They only use the actual grade to figure how you rank into programs.
Because I haven't had classes there in a long time, they will use my last 18 credit hours from Baker to figure my gpa portion of my application.
At least that is what they told me.

Yeah I was going to say the same thing. I transfered 126 credits to MCC from Wayne State (where I got my bachelors) and my GPA at MCC is currently 0.00 since my GPA doesnt transfer. I have all of the credits on my transcript from MCC just no current GPA. The advisors told me my GPA at Wayne is only used to calculate my ranking for nursing.
I'm not sure if this is what happened to people with their GPA dropping from Baker to MCC but just a thought:
Some schools use smaller increments to determine GPA such as 4.0, 3.75, 3.5, and some schools just use half points like 4.0 and 3.5. If you had many of the middle scores at one school like many 3.75s, those would all turn into 3.5s at the other school and lower your gpa.
Okay I went in and talked to an advisor, and no my gpa didn't drop....whewwwwww!!! I was scared there when I saw what my mcc gpa was versus baker. The gpa they have is from last time, years ago when I went there. They are just taking the last 12 credits from baker. So all is good now!!! Now I can only hope that I can get in the nursing program!! I also drove up to Mott College today in Flint and got put on their wait list. I figure I am going to go where ever I can and get onto lists...Since I may have to wait anyways...My walker and I will be crossing a stage somewhere somehow....even at 96 yr old....if that is what it takes!

LOL Good for you! That is a good attitude. :)
Few more questions:1. Does the calculator on the test have a decimal point or just basic add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
2. Is there a lot of vocab, and is it medical or regular?
3. Are the Roman numerals really hard are basic also?
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
Hi Shannonmarie,
The calculator does have a decimal on it. you have to point and click with the mouse to use the calculator. Not hard at all. The math I found was easy. The roman numerals were so easy. and I am pretty sure there was only one question on it. But it was extrememely easy. Just know what the letters mean and you will have it. The vocabulary, is both med and reg. Really study the study guide in both the vocab part and the Antamony vocab part. But there were some on there that I just couldn't get. So yeah that was hard. Also really, really read through the paragraphs on the reading comp. The first one is a killer. You really have to think about it before you answer it, because it is not telling you in the reading what they are asking on the questions.
I wish you the best of luck on the test. You will do great! :loveya:
