about mcc's HESI

Published

hi guys, just wondering if anybody can give some tips or advice for mcc's hesi entrance exam. also do you guys know how many questions there are in the whole test and/or each section? and do you think a 95 on the hesi and a great GPA is a shoe in already? any other info would bre great, thank you much!!:D

Bummer, I thought it was March! :(

Looking through my old posts from last year, I see that I received my letter on April 19. I remember thinking they were coming at the end of March and it was just killing all of us waiting and waiting and waiting. :banghead: My poor maillady was affraid to come to my house everyday without that letter.

Did they provide scratch paper and stuff for the math questions?

Has anyone taken the NET and Hesi, are they similar? Just seems like they would be the same test format.

They provide scratch paper for the Hesi.

The HESI study guide did NOT prepare me for the actual HESI AT ALL. The reading comprehension questions were NOTHING like the study guide. A lot of the vocab that was on the actual HESI was NOT in the study guide. How the hell are we suppose to be prepared if we don't know what to study for?

My class average wasn't very high either. Low 80s from what I can recall. I took it today.

The NET and HESI were very similar, I thought. The only diff. was the hesi has roman numerals, metric conversions and ratios and the NET doesn't. Also the NET is timed, where as the Hesi was timed but you had four hours to complete whatever whenever. I thought the HESI was easier.

Well I am taking the HESI today at 1:30 p.m. and am kinda nervous now that I read that the study guide is nothing like the actual test. I have studied the PLATO and the net guide along with the HESI guide. I am praying I have studied the correct stuff. I am just really hoping that the HESI doesn't have predicting outcomes like the net test does. That little part always does me in....Everything else in reading comp is not a problem, but those little dickens...So I am praying!!!!

You are going to do great! If you have been studying, and have already taken the NET, you will do just fine. I thought the study guide was pretty helpful and prepared me well for math. As long as your brain is in test mode you should be very confident about your abilities! Make sure you eat a healthy snack before you go in and bring some water.

Good Luck! I am sure you will do great. Let us know how you did when you get back!

I felt that the study guide was very helpful, except maybe for reading comprehension. You will do fine, good luck!!!!

Please don't let my experience make you nervous! The math is almost exactly like the study guide, and the grammar is very similar as well.

I didn't have any vocab from the HESI study guide, so studying that was a waste of time. The reading comprehension section was ridiculously hard. There was a paragraph about, let's say, trains and they asked a question about a flower. I'm exaggerating here, but the questions were so far out there, I had no idea what they were even asking. I couldn't tell you if they were trying to get you to make inferences or what. Needless to say, I left angry.

I think they make the HESI exam more difficult each year. I believe this because the woman helping us get set up for the exam said that next year they are adding A+P, then chemistry, then something else. Someone said, "geeze!" and the test lady said, "yeah, they are trying to make it harder."

Don't get discouraged though! It doesn't seem like many people are scoring very high this year anyway. Another reason why I believe the test may have changed in difficulty from previous years. Or maybe I'm just a moron.

I'm sure you'll do awesome though :) Best of luck!
