about mcc's HESI

Published

hi guys, just wondering if anybody can give some tips or advice for mcc's hesi entrance exam. also do you guys know how many questions there are in the whole test and/or each section? and do you think a 95 on the hesi and a great GPA is a shoe in already? any other info would bre great, thank you much!!:D

Thanks for the reply, I am stressing out about all of this big time. I am glad that they give you 4 hours and let you choose which ones that you want to first. I keep telling myself that at least they added more spots this year so I can get a little lower, but my GPA that they took is in the A- range, not an A.:( Woo hoo for the decimal point that will save a lot of time!

I know what you mean on stressing out, I always stress out the first time I take a test like this, because I just don't know what is on it and am I studying correctly. But rest assured, you will do fine. Get rest the night before, be comfortable and take your time. That's it and you will do wonderfully! Now if I could take it again, I know I would do better...LOL now that I know what to do. Have a wonderful day and don't stress!

The reading comp was ******. Be careful with what they are asking.

None of the vocab in the study guide was on the HESI, with an exemption of a couple med terms. Sorry.

I heard that a lot of the Vocab is MIA from the guide, that realy sucks, is the whole test multiple choice? Please do not tell me it is like the study guide online, that thing is soooo slow and filling in the numbers is a pain...lol.

Panky....I will try to take your advice and go slow and think about what they are saying, for some reason I like to space over what they are saying and have to go back later and change it when I really read it the second time, and I know that I can not do that on this.

I thought a quite a few were in there? But I must be wrong..:( Sorry. I know a lot of the med terms were not in the book, but reading through the A&P section, helped me remember back from the classes. I didn't mean to send you on the wrong path, Shannonmarie, but for me the refresher was good. Also know your math. metrics, ratio and proportation, and such. I really wrote out my problems on the sheet of paper they gave us and if I couldn't remember what 9x10 was I would use the calc. LOL....the stress stops my brain from working when it comes to math....

I tried to do quite a few of the problems on the PLATO thingy, but I got frustrated by how slow it was.

Also some were where you had to fill in the blank. But most were multiple choice.

Maybe there are more vocab in there than they are saying, I will definitely read over the A&P part for a refresher, I was surprised on how much the study guide had that is not on the test like chemistry. I am the same way my brain shuts down when it comes to math and taking tests, any other time I am fine.

I really appreciate all the help you have given me!:)

The vocabulary is given LIKE the study guide. Word are used in context of a sentence and you have to determine what they meant in the sentence. Our class had a 76 average.

My scores were 100 in reading, 96 in vocab, 94 math, and 94 in grammar.

Just make sure to take your time, Shannon. Normally, I am the first one done taking tests in every class. I purposefully took my time this time. I double checked everything before I hit submit.

Congrats on the scores! Seems like the HESI lets you take a little more time on it then the NET at least.

Well, FWIW, I don't necessarily think that the NET being timed the way it is, is a bad thing. I know the one error I made on the math portion of the NET was due to just being rushed. It was a borrowing error! :chuckle I definitely know how to do that. But it is useful in the regard that it shows how you work under pressure.
