Jealous Friends...

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Have you guys experienced any jealousy or changes in your friends because you're now a nurse?

I'm in the pre nursing phase, and now 2 of my close friends (who dropped out first year of college) are going back because of me. I'm not sure weather to feel flattered or insulted.

Are you serious OP? What you did, deciding to pursue nursing school, is not a novel idea. Many people do it. You aren't doing anything groundbreaking. Just because your friends now think they might want to follow the same or similar path doesn't mean they are "copying" you or "jealous".

You may be giving yourself too much credit. Being a nursing student isn't particularly unusual or impressive. In the area that I live it seems everybody is in nursing school.

And he is a Pre-Nursing student! Not in nursing school yet. I taught at a BSN program where nursing students where accepted in junior year of university. Officially there is no Pre-nursing program/major. School secretary told me she got lots of phone calls often from family/friends trying to contact various students who were most likely working on nursing pre-reqs, but family/friends would insist they were in the nursing program. She would refer to current lists of students in the program (and she met all of them during orientation & on case by case basis as they came into the department) and most of the phone calls no they were not in the nursing program currently. And I run into people at the clinics I work telling me they are pre-nursing students all the time!

OP What exactly have you done that they would be "jealous" of? That is the title of this thread. If you do get into nursing school you may have trouble getting along with other students with this attitude.

I can guarantee that none of my friends, family, or even acquaintances are even a little bit jealous that I am a nurse. I don't know a life where people would be... What alternate universe is this? Middle school, perhaps...

Correct. My friends are no more jealous of me for being a nurse than I am of them for being a psychologist, a technical writer, a software engineer, a salesman, someone who works in a non-profit, etc.

I had 2 reactions to this thread. The first is above. The other is homophones! Weather = what's going on in the atmosphere, whether = introduction to two alternatives. They're = they are, their = it belongs to them.

I would worry less about what my friends were doing... and brush up on my writing skills. It's whether, not weather. You have MANY papers in front of you grasshopper.

Let me explain more.

I think I feel this way because they have never helped me with anything, and after I did all the research and work, I told them what my plan was and now their copying it but without any hard work.

Does that help explaining why I feel this way?

And lastly, this isn't the first time they have done things like that. I would do one thing this week, and next week so would they.

If they get into nursing school, they will absolutely be doing the same hard work.

Have you guys experienced any jealousy or changes in your friends because you're now a RN

Yes, literally everyone was jelly. They were all like why can't I work every other weekend and half of all major holidays?

Specializes in critical care.

OP, I just did a bunch of reading on old posts and the only thing I want to contribute is -

RN is a license obtained by ASN or BSN educated nurses. There is no such thing as RN vs. BSN, because a BSN is an RN. What you are trying to say is ASN vs. BSN.

ASN is the community college program that lasts 2 years plus prerequisites.

BSN is the university program that lasts 4 years, including prerequisites, if you go straight through from the beginning.

You can also bridge RN to BSN. The reason why this context is appropriate is because in order to go into the bridge program, you must possess licensure as an RN. Truly, though, this traditionally is an ASN to BSN program.

After you have obtained your ASN or BSN degree, you submit an application to your state board of nursing, who approves you to take the NCLEX. When you pass the NCLEX, you are licensed as an RN.

Sorry for the hijacking, but this misunderstanding was in so many of your threads, and it looks like you don't visit them anymore.

I think you all have been very harsh towards me.

There is a lot of things you DON'T understand but you make a lot of ASSUMPTIONS.

You all (and no I'm not going to address you separately seem very angry and bitter towards me and are trying to paint me as the bad guy.

I simply asked a question of whether anyone has experienced jealousy and you are coming down on me like I'm saying I'm the queen of the world.

Congratulations to you guys for never having any be jelous of you, sabatoge you, or try to steal credit for something you have done. I envy you. However, my life has not worked out that way, and as a poverty level minority with major time commitments to family, my life has not been so easy.

You're right. Thank you for the clarification.

Just a random member strolling by to say that if you close this thread down and ask the question again, the exact same people who have commented on this one will comment on the next.
