There are very few nurses in my facility with BSN's. Two, to be precise. One is wonderful and supportive, the other doesn't like distance learning and used to give ma a hard time about Excelsior. A little older than me, ADN grad, got her BSN years ago, brick and mortar.
I tell her I've enrolled in the RN-MSN and she says, "Yeah." Eyeroll. When I got offended, it isn't me, I just shouldn't be allowed to do this. Where's the standard entry? SHE had to yada yada yada. I said, "Fine. I won't talk about it." "No, talk about it. It isn't personal, it's the whole process." "Well, it is personal. It affects me."

She's afraid you are going to have more alphabet soup that her and thus have a leg up over her. She slaved away at a brick and mortar while you just slid through a distance degree. She's paid her dues, man!
She's ignorant.

Sue - I would just ignore her. When I was in school and working as a staff nurse, I told a few people. When I got back some feedback I didn't care for, I quit talking about it, graduated left there and yesterday I had to call to give orders in the ER where I used to work and one of the most vocal critic of distance ed apologized!
What goes around, comes around!!!!! (I'm still giggling today!)

I'd stay away from her.. no one needs negativity. I hope she is still there when you get your MSN so you can in her direction.

I was at the nurses station one night talking with the DON and another nurse. The new night shift supervisor was there also. When a remark was made about me being in a BSN program, the night supervisor made a snide remark. She was such a good nurse that she got fired after only a few weeks on the job. I later heard that she didn't last three weeks at her next job either. So much for the source of snide remarks about those who pursue higher education.

she just has sour grapes because you have excelled in your distance program and will be getting a master's degree before she does. don't worry about her tude, sue.
as dr. seuss once said, those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind. :)

What a bitty! What does she know about your educational process? As you would say, Pfft.
Keep following your dreams, Sue. Unfortunately, there will be those few people who like to make others feel inferior, and some of them are nurses (I know- shocking, isn't it?). You will have a MSN, because you choose not to limit yourself. You are passing her by, because she's too afraid to even try what you're doing. That's her issue- not yours. She probably has no idea what informatics is, bless her heart.
Just swat that little fly away, and don't talk to her about it any more. You're smart enough to know what is good for you, and what is not. Keep plugging on- you have plenty of support from your friends here.

Sue, I hate when people make remarks like that. It is just plain ole rude. As my Mother has always said,"If you don't have anything nice to say...Don't say anything at all." You are the winner here, my friend. Good Luck! Traci

definately jealous. i just spent a whole semester at a brick & mortar nursing school hearing about how online learning is no good. it seems that traditional students are very threatened by online learning.:typing it takes more determination to go thru the online process and maybe she just can't do it. follow your dream. she is probably afraid you'll be her boss! ps i'm switching to excelsior, and i have to thank you, your posts inspired me!:redbeathe:heartbeat:loveya:
